Santa oh so special!

We made a visit to the railway on Saturday with our two children aged 2 and a half and 3 weeks along with my sister's family and our mum my nephews are 9 and 3 every single one of us had the most magical day and are keen to return.

Parking and collecting the tickets was easy and the train was worth the wait despite running a little late, it was cleaned promptly and our adventure began. The staff were all dressed very formally and it all felt a little polar express like which was lovely.

The elves were very confident and despite many being children they stayed in role offering photos and to answer questions about the North Pole. I hope my own children will grow to have similar levels of confidence and imagination.

There is no doubt that the real Santa visited our train he was amazing and having paperwork to allow him to know the children's name and where they came from was a lovely touch. The gifts given were excellent value my 9 year old nephew said Santa must really know him because he got something he loved! The smaller children's gifts were maybe a little gendered for 2022 but both well recieved by our little humans.

A real higlight and huge surprise was that the railway staff had gone out of their way to ensure chocolate safe to eat for my 2 year old she has allergies to dairy egg and soy and expecting the usual dissapointment that she cannot have what is provided I had come perpared but she found her own little chocolate reindeer from santa and was over the moon. As an allergy mum with a newborn I almost cried thank you so much for the extra effort!

The winterwonderland photo far exceeded our expectations and has made me keen to invest in some professional photos of my family in the near future.

The tombola was a lovely touch with real quality prizes and we were happy to spend a pound a ticket to support such a lovely place.

Finally the gift shop was increidbly reasonably priced and I think Santa will be brining all 4 children gifts from the railway in their stokcings this year to help them remember such a special day.
A must have adventure.

Santa Special

Brought 1st Class Santa Special tickets for 2 adults & a 2 year old.

Santa was fantastic, train was running late, railway staff are generally a bit fumbly, no hot drink served onboard as advertised, toy for 2 year wasn’t suitable nor worth the money we’d paid, seems other children received more reasonable gifts. Perhaps geared towards children over 4.

Probably wouldn’t return again but enjoyable for a one time trip.

Santa Special

With our grandchildren, we had a wonderful day on the Santa Special. Everything was great, from the train itself, Father Christmas, all the volunteers. There were plenty of other things for the children to enjoy. Would definitely recommend the KESR, especially at Christmas time.

Fun day out, who doesn't like stream trains

We had a great day out to Bodium castle via the Kent and Sussex railway. As it is run by volunteers who give their time for free it is a much appreciated by us.

The train and carriages are in good condition and it was a fun day out. I do think it is at the top of end of what they can charge but as it is a charity you can easily appreciate that they must have some large overheads maintaining the track and stock.

The journey takes you through some beautiful English countryside to one of my favorite castles Bodium. You then get to take a walk around the castle and then walk back to the station and back to the train.

A great asset to the area

We had a fantastic trip on the steam train. It was everything we wanted it to be. No crowds, nobody telling us when to get on or get off and no over-zealous stewards. All very easy going, informative and interesting. Really lovely.

Nice relaxing break

Booked this on line on Sunday 25 September 2022 and travelled on the following Tuesday. Took advantage of ordering some snacks and two bottles of Proseco.
Both the food and drinks were good and imo not overpriced. We took the earliest train and it was still quite busy. All the staff we dealt with were friendly. At each station the staff waived at the train and even some vehicle accupants at crossings waived too!
We found this a great, enjoyable and relaxing experience.
Glad we took the early train as some of the customers waiting to get on the train when we arrived back at Tenterden seemed rude and unfriendly!

Everyone is so welcoming

Whether you go as a family with young children or as a railway enthusiast like me you'll get a warm welcome from everyone you meet. Worthwhile checking their on line timetable to see what is running on the day you want to go. There were 2 trains running during our visit - a steam locomotive with vintage carriages and a diesel locomotive with more modern carriages. Lots to see and do, and the depot is worth a visit if you have the chance. There is a viewing platform for you to see the locomotives, and at the far end of the line is Bodiam Castle

Always fun to go on a steam locomotive !

This was part of a church outing to Bodiam Castle. We had a slight delay enroute when our coach was held up in traffic but the train was held for us which was very kind of the staff. It was enjoyable tosteam through lovely countryside and a pleasant surprise to have a refreshment trolley coming through.

Nostalgic, relaxing trip to Bodiam.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and subsequent 50 minute train ride to Bodiam Castle. Really nice, friendly people who are happy to chat and encourage younger people to get interested in the past. It isn't cheap cheap £23 per adult, but our daughter only cost £1 as they had a summer school holiday offer on which has now finished at the time of writing- even so, nearly £50 is a little on the heavy side, but I suppose thier overheads must be high, and I would rather it survive even if it means paying a bit more than I expected.

Only diesel engines running at the moment due to the tinder dry fields either side of the tracks- take a little tip from me if you happen to be on the same diesel as ours- try and get on first, that way you can sit in the front row of seats immediately behind the driver, and as it is glass fronted it affords a wonderful 'drivers eye' view of the journey.....something you rarely get the chance to see. Really enjoyed that view.

Recommened for a lovely, relaxing and nostalgic afternoon. Don't forget about getting on first!

Beer tasting

Wow we went on the beer tasting evening train ride, we tasted old dairy on the platform, then collected our curry and boarded the train, the bar had a good selection of ales the trip was very good, highly recommended
