What an absolute waste of money....£9 for a 10 mins ride on 100m of track. Save your money. We should have realised it would be awful when this "attraction" is overshadowed on all sides by an electricity pylon. Food and refreshments is a grotty burger van, the train track is lined with broken gnomes.... honestly, save your money. Definitely NOT worth a visit.

The Sherwood Forest Railway is a great little hidden gem. It is geared towards families with small children, although us adults (and not so small children enjoyed our visit too!)
The reason we visited was for a steam train driving experience, booked for my dad. The experience was one on one with the owner (Bob, I believe.) He explained how the experience would run, who would drive the engine when etc before we all climbed aboard the train and set off.
The railway line is not particularly long, but the countryside and grounds it runs through are pretty. My Dad was able to drive the steam train twice, up and down the length of the line. He enjoyed his time behind the controls, and we enjoyed watching him in action!
The owner, and the young lady, who was working in the ticket office and shop were both extremely polite, welcoming and friendly. The train carriages are open at the sides, and we had a lot of heavy rain in the morning before we arrived. Bob had even wiped the seats dry in the carriage for us, which we appreciated! The only negative of the whole experience was the booking of it! Red Letter Day's provide an incorrect phone number, and it took a couple of messages on a different number, and an email to get a reply back about booking the experience. Other than that, brilliant. If we are in the area again, we'd come back and visit.

We visited as a party of 6 adults and 2 x 18 month olds. The boys loved the train ride and seeing the driver dressed as an elf. They enjoyed meeting Santa and the gifts they were given were really nice gifts too. You also get a gingerbread Christmas tree decoration which is really cute as well. The boys had a fantastic time and us adults enjoyed it to.

We visited with our 3 grandchildren on a warm sunny day. Don’t know why we hadn’t been here before as we only live 20mins away. Kids absolutely loved it & burned off lot of energy on the free bouncy castle, zip wire & roundabout .
Parking is free which is a bonus nowadays. The only ride you pay for is the narrow gauge steam train, short but enjoyable. They have plans afoot to extend the track.
A little shop, ice creams & drinks all reasonably priced.
All in all a great day out without breaking the bank.
We will definitely be back in the kids holidays 😎

Although we didn’t have to pay to go in the train ride was very short 7 pounds for myself and a 3 year old for about 6 minutes on the train the toys on the park really could have done with jet washing this place has a lot of potential but everything looked so tired and dirty

We visited this railway looking for something to do whilst staying at the nearby sherwood pines campsite. It was easy to get to, has its own little car park and a cute little ticket office with a few toys for sale. The train journey was enjoyable, our 2 year old loved it. It was on the pricey side for amount of time it took to go to the end and back again. There is a stop where you can go to a picnic area and get a later train back. The best bit for us was the under 5s play area, which we had to ourselves and had lots of play equipment and different bikes to choose from.

Superb place, well worth a visit. Great little train ride and child facilities. Toilets very well maintained. If we lived closer and had a small child we would be buying a season ticket for sure.

This was a really beautiful experience that I shared with my family The view was lovely in the back where I was with my family It was a really good time, I hopped off the train at the bus stop and had a really scenic and aesthetic Picnic while enjoying The lovely view it was so alpha

I think £14 for a 5 minute ride was not good value. It's literally through the tunnel and back, I'm not sure if it used to be longer but it's not a mile for sure. Wouldn't recommend unless you've got toddlers

Can’t really moan at the old and broken toys in the under 5 area as it’s free. Don’t think 1 toy was complete.
The train is a nice train but the price has been increased for the holidays as it’s more than the website says. Also no way is it a 1 mile ride.
Now my biggest grievance. Went to buy a coffee. It was just a Nescafé sachet for £2.50 you can buy a box of 8 sachets for that price 😡

Is it possible to book a driving experience directly from the railway? and if so how much would it cost?
My husband loves steam trains and I think he would love this experience, and love to share the day with our two little
grandsons.

No more than 10 minutes, but the little 3 year old loved it, and there are 3 play parks on the site all free to use, you only pay for the train ride and any refreshments you may wish to purchase. we were there for about 3 hours and even then the young lad was reluctant to leave.
