As a family of four we spent August 2023 visiting several Amusement Parks to check off our bucket list, and this was our first visit to Kings Island! A++

Parking was an amazing breeze, a well oiled machine that got us to our spot super quick. We might have lucked out on this visit, as the weather that day was calling for showers and clouds all day. However, that was far from the case as the rain only had one shower early that lasted for 10 minutes and then the sun came out. We think because of the forecast the Park was very quiet.(It got busy as the evening drew near) We honestly rode several coasters twice and some three times like the Beast and Orion! The staff was super nice and very friendly. We mostly came for the coasters and we also enjoyed Diamondback. Mystic Timbers had great theming but the ride itself was a bit rough. The only negative in the entire Park to us was the location of the Bat. Way to long of a walk that made no sense. However, the Park was clean, amazing and beautiful landscaping that gave us the feeling this Park cared about itself and its future. Prices for drinks on a hot day were a bit high but overall food prices were competitive with other Parks as expected.

We will be back to visit again, as Kings Island and the Beast did not disappoint!!!

Notable places to Eat--My List from a Regular Visitor

Some comments on the good places to eat. Sometimes it's hard to get a good healthy salad. Check out the Miami River Brewhouse "KI salad". It's better than Panera Bread. They also have a nice BLT sandwich and other choices. Check out the Chicken Shack for always good chicken tenders and not bad fries. Good size portions too. This is also at the Island Smokehouse where you can get Shrimp also. Do you like EXCELLENT ice cream as some of the best in the country? Graeters along the main entrance. Do you like Mexican food? Check out the newest area improved Mexican restaurant Enrique's where some people report its better than Chipolte's. Like excellent fries? Try Potato Works. The Grain and Grill and Meteor Canteen are good choices too for something different. In my opinion, avoid the Panda Express as it's average and not as good as outside KI. LaRosa's is Cincinnati area pizza--it's ok if you like Cincinnati pizza. Skyline Chilli is Cincinnati area chili but in my opinion at KI it's not as good as in the regular restaurant. One last tip: If you plan on attending more than a few times on a season pass buy the season pass meal plan. Pay once and the rest of the visits eat for "free".

Never coming back

Spent almost $700 for all UPGRADED wrist bands. My sons flew off on a ride and they would not replace it even with the other 6 and my receipts and started to get loud with me. They are robbing people for their money and making it to where kids CAN NOT EAT OR DRINK EVEN WHEN PAID FOR. Holiday world is more family friendly. They opened 30 minutes late, my other young son felt like he had to poop, I asked a security guy what to do not knowing their was a bathroom and HE SAID HE WOULD CALL AN AMBULANCE FOE HIM RATHER THAN TELLING ME THERE WAS A BATHROOM AT THE FRONT. They are terrible here!!!!!!

VIP Lounge and Premium Dining plan review

I took my 15 year old son and his friend to Kings Island. This was our first time there. Due to the new chaperone policy, I had to stay in the park. I wasn’t going to tag along with them, or ride the rides by myself, so I needed a shady place to hang out. I pre-purchased access to the VIP lounge for $39. I’m glad I did, but probably wouldn’t do it again.
First off, this lounge is open air. If it was HOT, it wouldn’t have been a good choice, but due to the 70 degree weather it was perfect. The attendant at the Lounge quickly learned my name and was super helpful. They offered free water and potato chips. There were couches to stretch out on and tables/chairs if one wanted to do work, or bring in their meal. On our way out of the park, I found a huge air conditioned Starbucks that could be used to get away from the sun/heat for next time instead. The lounge is just too expensive and doesn’t offer air conditioning.
We pre-purchased the Premium Dining plan because it came with drinks. The biggest disappointment about this plan is that (from what I found) you have to know exactly what food is available before you order it. There aren’t any signs, and the workers aren’t sure. There is a listing of the premium plan food options on the website in the FAQ page? I couldn’t find it in the app. So we took screen shots of the page so we knew what we could order. The Premium Plan is VERY limited! Only a couple things per restaurant. And you can only use it every 90 minutes. You needed to be strategic about using it. It was nice not having to carry around a credit card….since the cashiers just scanned our bracelets, but I wouldn’t purchase this again.

Horrible customer experience when paying for an upgraded park experience

Horrible service in Soak City with Cabana rental. We spent $250 to rent a cabana for the day. Fan didn’t work. TV in cabana was all fuzzy with poor reception and no remote. Cabana was supposed to come with food ordering service. Park was understaffed and after several minutes we were told to order food at a cash register near the entrance to the cabana. After an hour, food had not been delivered. One of the staff members went to check in and she said we were the next up order. Then 40 minutes later it still didn’t arrive. I called Guest Services which is a joke and 15 min on hold with no one answering. So I walked up to Guest Services and explained I wanted a good refund and a cabana refund. More standing and waiting and another 5 staff kids, one empowered to do anything, until their manager’s manager finally showed up. They gave me the food refund and I asked also for a cabana refund since I had spent 2 hours on this entire ordeal trying to order and then track down food. Karrie; the head of food service, asked if I was enjoying my cabana. I said no because we haven’t been able to leave it or find the food. She was a real rude manager (and the only adult in this situation). I asked for a full refund again. All they would do is give a full refund and kick us out for the day. What a waste. What a complete waste of time and expertise. Kings Island is no Disney. Don’t waste your time on any perks or upgrades. The service is non existent.

My children frequent King’s Island quite often and we have spent quite a lot of money there over the years, but after this evenings frustrations, I am seriously considering redirecting those funds to some other entertainment venue for them. My son who for the record is 16, did not bring his temps with him because he was going to the amusement park. Typically a responsible decision if you ask me. When he got to the security gate at just after 5 they told him he could not enter without it or an adult. I who was already 20 minutes away and short of half way home, had to turn around to come back and park (oh yes parking is $30 without a pass and although there is a drop off, there is nowhere to park to escort your child through security. Is security combing the park and kicking out 13, 14 and 15 year olds who entered prior to 4PM. No. Hence one reason it’s a stupid rule. Second, what is a 13, 14, or 15 year old going to do that a 16 or 17 year old won’t...The answer is nothing or likely even less. The park I would imagine likely implemented the rule so they can monitor for hoodlums with a basis to kick them out if needed. However, somewhere along the way, some over zealous, power seeking security manager found it necessary to take it to the next level. Basically a rule designed to monitor for unruly, misbehaving kids was blown up. If anyone can shed any sense of logic on it that I seem to be missing, I am all ears. It certainly can’t be good business sense, since the majority of young children visit in the day with their families, leaving more adults and teenagers in the evening hours. Many teenagers whom depend on their working parents to drive and pay for their venture. My kids were not allowed on their own there until 13 either, meaning this rule literally keeps out primarily 13, 14 and 15 year olds after 4PM (except those already in the park of course). King’s Island/Cedar Fair May wonder why sales are declining, paying marketers thousands to unravel the great mystery, when it is literally as simple as common sense. Don’t implement rules that discriminates against one of your primary target markets (i.e. teenagers (PS the ones in extra curriculars and sports are the ones free in the evening and not the day) the ones with working parents). If it weren’t for the the nice lady at parking I’d probably have really lost it instead of just being irritated with security. So thank you for at least one employee demonstrating some inkling of common sense and kindness.

Kings Island was awesome. We took my 9 year old son, 12 year old daughter and niece and nephew. They had a good time we were there from Monday evening to Thursday afternoon. We didn't even want to leave after 4 days! They line weren't long and all the rides were working while we were there. I would definitely recommend this to others.

Soak City, Horrible and Overcrowded.

Horrible experience. People come and reserve the chairs in the morning. Thousands of unoccupied chairs with towels laying across each one. Water park is beyond capacity by 2 pm. If you want to be frustrated and sitting in the grass while your kids wait hours for water slides…come to Kings Island Soak City. Horrible.
