My husband and I have stayed in all of the Ohio state parks (some of them more than once) but we had never spent the night at Deer Creek. This past week we completed our bucket list! It was a little hard to get into as they are working on the front entrance and inside swimming pool area but we knew that ahead of time. We took a friend with us and she had her own room but we were told we would have connecting rooms but when we got there, we didn't. I went and talked to the girl at the front desk and she was very nice and switched rooms for us so we could have adjoining rooms. Our dinner the first night was really good-better than we expected and our server, Deaven was excellent. Breakfast the next morning was good but not as good as dinner the night before. We made reservations ahead of time to rent a pontoon boat for 2 hours and we had a great time! It was a beautiful day and the boat was quite new and very nice. The guy who was working at the marina was very friendly and showed us how to work everything. That was probably the highlight of our trip!

About the only positive thing I can say is that all the staff I spoke too were nice. Yes, it’s older and yes everyone is short staffed (post Covid). But that’s no excuse in my book for the lack of cleanliness. Our outside patio doors were covered in mud and FALL leaves (it’s June!) and needed swept. My brothers room had a gob of long black hair on the shower shelf. Rooms all need to be renovated. There was a wedge of DRIED lemon in the lobby on a table. The grounds and lake are beautiful though. If you are an OCD person I would suggest you stay elsewhere! I will note that some of the lodge is under renovation but that can’t account for the above mentioned. The one positive thing was every staff member we talked to were extremely nice!

I camp at deer creek a lot. All pads are paved and mostly level with some of them having slight leveling issues. There are 232 electric only sites. Sites 003 through 096 are wooded. Situated behind sites 112, 113 and 114 on one side and sites 001, 003 and 005 on the other, is the main playground. Behind all the even sites from 202 to 218 is the activities field. This field has 2 GAGA ball pits, concrete Pickle ball pad, Basket Ball, Valley Ball, Succor field, a Stage and a Projector Shack for Saturday night movies, with free popcorn (bring your own chair and mosquito repellent). Balls can be obtained from the camp office which also has mini and disc golf supplies to lend out. This field also has a double shelter on a concrete pad, which is next to the Friends of Deer Creek Food booth behind wash house 4. The booth is only open on special events during the camping season. Courtesy of the Friends of Deer Creek, some sites have their own metal shelters. Most sites are spacious but some are close to other sites that make for good group camping, Or put “Love thy neighbor” on an all new level. During the wet season beware of even Sites 082 through 088 in the woods. Lot 086 gets flooded. The only thing above water is the paved pad. The flood goes out from there to the other sites, which has their own drainage trouble. Wooded Sites 018, 020 and 022 also gets a lot of standing water, but seems to drain quicker, if it ever stops raining long enough. There are other wet sites but these are the worst. The dump station is a 2 lane gravity flow system, situated on the main road going out of the camp ground. It well served its purpose in the days when campers were smaller and less of them. But now, when Sunday mornings come around, the camp dump station is no place for tender ears. The line is so long it blocks some of the camp sites close by, blocks in and out traffic and the wait time seems to go on forever. Campers come so close to each other a mouse wouldn’t survive between them. Just be patient, you’ll get there and plan on the extra time it’ll take to get through the line. Up by the camp office is the improved mini golf course with carpeted concrete pads and new steel shelter, again courtesy of the friends group. Also there is a memorial disc golf course. Neglected by the state, half the fairways are hip high in grass and mud holes that can swallow up shoes. People spend most of their time searching for their discs in the weeds. It’s a great fun course but needs some attainable attention. The horse trails nearby are also overgrown. The mowers are probably avoiding break downs from trying to mow through mud. New to the park, by the overflow parking lot, is a story book trail. By the entrance is a little library with all children’s books in it. There are 4 other little libraries, by all the main shower houses, throughout the campground. The only bad thing I heard about the shower houses was that there are no hooks for towels or clothes and the exhaust fan wasn’t functional. On another note, if you need a store close by, go to Frosties, off 207 going toward the Dam. It’s more than a hunting and fishing store. They have camping, food and paper supplies and the best varieties of scoop ice creams. Happy Camping!

Used to take the kids here numerous times when they were little to spend the night at the lodge. Called to make a reservation this past month and when I was told the price was almost $200 per night, we went elsewhere. The park itself is really nice and the lodge is nice but not worth $200 per night. The staff was always really nice.

We've stayed many times over the years, but not for the past 2 or 3 years and have always had a nice experience. Rented a cabin for the weekend...very disappointed. Mouse was in the cabin (was a trap with mouse droppings around it right after we checked in) screens and window sills were filthy and screens were old and had tears. We killed at least 60 stink bugs...disgusting. Soap dispensers were empty, remote in one of the bedrooms did not work (batteries were dead,,,should be part of housekeeping to check!). Hand held shower was practically coming off the wall because the screws were loose. Shower curtain was missing a shower ring , not a big deal, but as they say...'it's the little things.' Curtains were stained with dead bug stuff. I mentioned all these things to a front desk gentlemen who seemed totally disinterested (I told him I knew this wasn't his deal, but...)
The grounds look nice, the lodge is clean, the staff in the dining area are very helpful. The auto door opener for ladies room in the lodge was broken, the looks on the stall doors were broken...not a good first or even 5 impression. No towels in the pool area or workout room. The outside 3-tired patio area outside of the common area was littered with cigarette buts, and other trash. I realize help is difficult to find at this time, but some of these things are not that time consuming to make part of a daily routine. H
Hopefully management will make fixing these things a priority; for us this is close to family and the outside area is great...cabins, not so much.

Found a bed bug on the bed, the cabin was dirty, stains on the sheets and mattress. It was overall disappointing and disgusting.

The lake is beautiful, the lodge…not so much. Room was ok but we had no housekeeping, so had to call for towels, toilet paper, trash removal, etc. Room was pretty pricy so room service should be included!! Front office day staff not very friendly at all, in fact, down right rude. You have to pay extra for things like a fire ($25 for 2 hours), “beautification fee”, etc. Needs a good cleaning inside and out! Cobwebs everywhere! Food was good. Breakfast buffet fantastic! Fun to watch the little critters run around outside your balcony. Lake views beautiful! Dining room manager was delightful! We stayed here a few years back and don’t remember having any of these problems.

I was near the dam and the visitor center. It was a wonderful cool evening. I perfect spot to enjoy a bottle of water and relax.
Here are a few pictures of the view.

We have a goal to see all 88 state parks in Ohio. This past weekend we visited some in the Central Region. We started out at the lodge. It was very busy, but the weather was nice. There were tennis courts. A short walk took you to the lake. There were swings overlooking the water. A lot of people were walking their dogs. We visited the Harding Cabin, hangout of the former U.S. president. We saw some trees down in the dried up part of the lake near there. We also saw kayakers and an eagle. Then we went to the top of the dam. There were some people walking across it. At the bottom of the dam we saw a lot of fishermen. There was also a lot of people on the playground to the left of the bottom of the dam.

No control over other campers seen. Loud music, multiple families allowed at a single campsite.
We had set up our tent, chairs, and were settling back in for a nice, quiet night, but the park folks ushered in a guy and his family and 2 other groups into a single site, right next to ours, about a half-dozen kids or so, 6 adults. I understand that people talk and make noise, but the radio cranked up, the dozen+ voices got loud, so we packed up and left.
And fyi, I walked around the camping area we were in: huge number of unused camp sites, about 4 on the other side of the crowd. Why did the owners/employees put these folks next to us? Because the one guy said, "we don't want to be in the woods" !!!
Sorry. Been camping all over the USA, but this was the worst we've experienced.

I have a group of 15 family members from 8 to 74. They like good hiking trails, good campsites and a pool. We went to Hocking Hills last year and it was great, except the camping sites were small and on top of each other. The cabin I there was great!
Any recommendations in the Northern part of the state. They normally hiking from 5 to 15 miles a day.
Thanks Chicago Bob

The reviews listed state and average experience overall. None of the reviews mentioned the cabins. I would like to know if anyone has experienced them? We are looking for an adult get away in mid October close to home.
