Since it was blustery, there was hardly any campers there, even over the weekends. Only the upper campground was open but it was still very quiet and semi-secluded feeling. We had water and electricity (30 amp) hookups. Our spot was too small for our huge camper and the boat trailer, so the boat and trailer were parked just adjacent in a parking lot. While we could see the rig from the camper, it still was very reassuring to see law enforcement drive through very regularly along with the Rangers, who were fabulous. We had a struggle with our huge Lance camper getting it ready for our first camping trip in it, so we missed a day of our paid stay. The awesome Ranger not only called to make sure I would not miss another day, she promised I'd have no worries if I miss the 1 pm curfew, which would mean losing your spot altogether! And my Husband caught 3-4 kokanee per day after no more than 6 hours fishing. The views along the shorelines are amazing, and the lake branches out to include 2 rivers. There are some areas with pictographs (ancient rock carvings) and the geology here is breathtaking, especially along the top of the rimrock looking down to the reservoir. It would take a while to see everything there is here!

Rented 21' Fireball speedboat w swim deck from Cove Palisades Resort for 8 hours, no regrets!! Very professional/helpful employees. Over 100F, barely felt it. Bimini cover and SPF a must, very little shade after 10. Started at 9, recommend this. Explored all arms of lake, stopped in our favorite inlet twice to swim/ float. Water green by mid August but no after effects as others mentioned, felt very clean and refreshed! Rock formations above just beautiful. Lake big/wide enough so can tube easily! Sandwiches at Cove store great! Family w teens and 8 yr old.

Great boat ride around lake Billy chinook. Nice day and a big lake. Cool enough that no other boats were on the lake.

IF you rent these boats, you must go prepared for the following. I will be honest and subjective - but I’m going to list the “bad” first. That way, you don’t glaze over it and are forewarned. Our friends and I rented at the same time - same boats - and had the same experience - both good and bad (14 & 10 passenger type with corrugated siding/blue & white).
The Bad:
1. Mechanically, these boats are old. They run - but look like hell under the hood (rust, oily bilge, questionable wiring).
2. The old battery and charging system they use requires you to run the loud, smelly generator most of the trip. Which not only is hazardous - due to carbon monoxide pumping toward the back deck - but also destroys the peace of your experience. If they threw a couple 100 watt solar panels ($300 on Amazon) - this would not be required.
3. Due to running the generator AND engine (required as directed) almost the whole time while on the boat - our gasoline bill was about $150 (in addition to propane) even though we literally only drove the boat one hour round trip.
4. The “house” batteries, even when fully charged at dinner, would not last through the night. This resulted in us having to throw out food because the refrigerator would fail. So we ended up using our coolers and buying ice. Same story- both boats. I brought a voltmeter on the trip - so I verified it. The batteries were just worn out and should have been able to handle a couple of refrigerators - that use very little amperage (they’re propane).
5. Our propane grill didn’t even work. It leaked propane and would not stay lit - even with no wind. Yet they charged me $55 for propane- even after I told them. Fridges use propane - when they work! But not that much. I am an RV owner. So I know. My friends boats grill worked though. But if you’re solo - watch out!! No way to cook!
6. Inside cook stove propane was so weak it was on low - even when selected to high. It would heat water but not boil.
7. One of the toilets stunk the entire time because the seal leaked - allowing gases to come up.
8. The generator could not handle a coffee maker AND an electric griddle (or a microwave) at the same time and popped a breaker. We didn’t even try the air conditioning because of this!!
9. The rear upper deck roof was sagging and floppy & had rotten wood splinters that would drop out when people walked up there. It was unnerving- so I wouldn’t let the kids near the center for fear it would collapse.
10. The cost. Granted, they are he ONLY company on the Lake (Cove and LBC are same company). $1800 for three nights (plus the extra $230 they charged us at the end for gas and propane). We’ve been on Houseboats before that we’re at least twice better maintained - and paid about the same. BUT- they have a lot of them. So you pay for convenience of scheduling.
11. No anchor - so your stuck with the boat facing and tied on the shoreline. This means that you’ll be breathing carbon monoxide any time the generator and engine are “charging” the batteries- if you want to enjoy sitting on the back toward the lake.
12. Spotty cell coverage. They tell you to text them if there’s a problem- but you’ll likely not have any coverage. So, have a boat with your boat so you can easily go where you do.
13. No offer or apology for our experience. Mostly indifferent.
The Good:
1. The interiors - although old, were clean.
2. The boat got us to the shore so we could park (didn’t break down).
3. The staff was nice - even though at the end - they questioned us for everything that went wrong and didn’t care to hear about what needed fixing.
4. The boats are pretty beat up in the first place - so you don’t worry about dings or scratches. Is that good?? Sure - if you’ve got a bunch of teens with you.
5. The actual layout of the boats were spacious and well equipped (if anything was actually functional).
6. The hot water worked fine.
7. Kitchen utensils provided - bring your own can opener - ours was broken.
8. They provide toilet paper.
9. They provide garbage bags.
Overall, my impression was that the overall frustration and stress of worrying about things working made my vacation just like work. Kids enjoyed themselves- but the adults not so much. My wife actually got sick one morning due to the generator exhaust blowing toward the back deck near where she was sitting. Yes there’s a sign. But why isn’t there a pipe that directs it away. It goes into the main bedroom if any windows or doors or open as well. I brought a lot of tools with me and a lot of coolers - which saved us. Although we had to throw out half our food the 2nd day - as it spoiled from the fridge dying at night. If we’d not had a second boat - we could not have cooked our meats. There is a microwave. After all was done and we were leaving, I mentioned all of these things to them. They questioned me about how often I ran the generator to charge the batteries. When I told them twice as much as directed - they didn’t believe me. Mostly blank stares is what I got and happy to take my credit card to charge me another $250 for gas and propane that I shouldn’t have had to use. As others have indicated- be careful to flush with lots of water - or you may plug the toilets - giving them another reason to charge you “extra”. All of this ruined it for my wife. I doubt she will go again. They’re the only company on Lake Billy - which is sad. I’d probably go again - but I’d do the following:
1. Not run the generator or engine while sitting to save gas; avoid carbon monoxide; and noise.
2. Hook up jumper cables from the engine batteries to the house batteries - and occasionally fire up the engine. The charger they have in there is a POS made to charge a car battery.
3. Just use ice in coolers- not refrigerators.
4. Bring my own solar panels.
5. Bring my own BBQ.
In addition- I recommend you bring these items that I brought that saved us a little:
Lots of coolers.
Big roll of duct tape.
Sleeping bags.
Boat fenders.
Voltmeter.
Jumper cables.
Small solar lights.
Small solar phone chargers.
Portable Bluetooth speaker.
Extra tools.
Small handheld vacuum.
I’m not meaning to bash them. I liked all of them as people. But they are running on a shoestring budget and are accepting a level of mechanical deficiencies that is below what I’d be comfortable with as a business owner. I am sure profits are likely tight. I hope that they invest or find an investor that can bring the level up a notch. I am sure the workers would appreciate it and I know we would as well. There is a lot of potential there.
Perhaps if you decide to rent one - go with one of their bigger, nicer boats (FROM THE COVE) as opposed to the blue/white 10-14 person boats. There’s a few nicer ones that I didn’t get into. Those are about $3500 for three days. To me probably worthwhile after this sh*t-show.

We rented a deluxe cabin. Nice cozy cabin, close to the water. Great views. Day use areas are not pet friendly at all, we paid extra money to bring our family dog and cannot take him anywhere.

We explored both sides of the water. Each side is totally different, lots of photo opportunities. It's a quick trip just outside of Redmond. Don't miss the waterfall.

I loved the scenery but not even one bite fishing. We were fishing for trout/steelhead using maps and similar lures. We did see a bald eagle.

You can take your boat and go water skiing or fishing on the lake. A popular place. There is also a campground. You can take your trailer or your tent. There are places for both.

Bring a tarp or an umbrella for inside of the houseboat! These houseboats are run down, they literally have DUCT TAPE patches on the exterior of the roofs that they paint over. Our houseboat was leaking everywhere and we watched them "fix" the leak with duct tape. We spent one night and left the next day after paying for almost a week. The houseboats are VERY VERY old, in very poor shape and it is not worth a nickel to stay there. I promise you, you will be sorely disappointed! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY!

Does anyone have pictures of the inside of the boats? We will be using the 10 person in Sept. I was wondering about storage, and privacy for some of the sleeping areas, does everyone have to change in the bathroom? How are the mosquitoes at night? Can you sit on the top of the boat?

Is there any overflow parking nearby? I know the park has a strict 2 car per site rule, but I am hoping there is somewhere we can stash a car that isn't super far away.

My iPhone is on AT&T's network. I did have service on the upper campground. However on the water service was next to none and spotty. My iPad however is on Verizon and I did have service on the upper campground however I cannot comment on the actual cell service. I do know that once you're on the lake services next to none and spotty- better at the Marina. You should be okay as long as you stay at the upper campground. I hope this helps!!

We have Verizon and there have been areas where we have received service, but also those holes in which we haven't. We've never been to the specific place you're asking about. Maybe calling the managers there...and they could help answer?
I see you're from Boise. Love that city! We went there often in the 12 years we were in Ontario, Oregon.
Have a great trip.
