I booked this trail ride based on reviews. Perhaps my expectations were too high, but I was pretty disappointed.
I will start with the positive. The owners were very nice and they care more about the wellness of their horses more than anything else and I value that.
The ride itself was a let down. It has been about six months since we went, so I don’t remember details. What I do remember is that the ride outbound was on a dirt road next to a canal. The views were nice. We stopped I think three times for photos. The owner spent a lot of time taking photos for us, which was nice, but I would have preferred to spend that time riding more. The return trip was on a trail adjacent to the dirt road we rode out on, so the scenery was the same on the way back.
All in all, for the amount of actual riding time and the fact that the return trip was basically the same as the outbound trip, I didn’t think this ride was great. I don’t know how far we went, but it felt like maybe 4 miles round trip.
I hate to say this because the owners were so kind, but I wouldn’t recommend this tour.

This was an absolute highlight of our trip! Driving out to Brian and Melanie’s ranch, the scenery changes drastically. Beautiful rock formations and absolute raw nature everywhere.
Brian and Melanie were both so warm and welcoming. They are friendly and down to earth and Brian’s instruction for both experienced and new riders is simple to understand and easy to follow.
It is clear that he loves his horses very much and has put a lot of time and effort in with them.
My husband and I were introduced to Ellie and Pearl, our beautiful horses for an equally beautiful ride along waterways and canyons.
The ride was long and varied with many opportunities to admire the view! Not only did Brian bring us ice cold water for the ride but he would periodically stop at the most beautiful outlooks, dismount, and take pictures of myself and my husband on our horses with the majestic views in the background.
The horses are the best trained horses I have ever encountered and I think his love, kindness and respect for the horses is a large contributing factor in that.
What a wonderful experience!!!!! Thank you too Brian, Melanie, Ellie and Pearl! We will be back

It is very hard to pick a favorite part of the experience since it was fantastic all around!
Brian is very personable and professional, and he loves his horses which is obvious by the way they look, how he talks about them and interacts with them. He makes sure everyone knows the basics, even if they have ridden before, but again is a professional. The views around the state park were incredible and my wife and I loved the ride and cannot to do it again! We are blessed to live in the region and feel like we found a hidden treasure.
Do not go with one of the regional corporations and their outfits, Smith Rock Trail Rides is the last place you need to know about.

Brian provided a wonderful first trail ride along the beautiful backdrop of Smith Rock State Park and Melanie was flexible with my group as we arranged the details. I was impressed with Brian's tutorial for riding a horse which helped us know what to expect from each horse while on the trail and he takes great care of all of them. I'd highly recommend Smith Rock Trail Rides for anyone passing through the area.

Brian is amazing! Kind, professional, caring and he loves his horses and it shows! We were blessed to be just my husband, me and Brian and we went out on the best ride ever. It was our first time in Oregon and it was our favorite day of our vacation. Everything...from the moment we pulled in the driveway and Brian waved as he was getting the horses ready to the time we pulled out of the driveway, he was kind and sincere. We would go back in a heartbeat. The horses were amazing!! You could just tell they were cared for with love and they took good care of us on the trail. I cannot say enough about Smith Rock Trail Rides. And Melanie was so sweet as she sent us the paperwork and answered all our questions. Love the website too!!

Wow - what an amazing experience we had! Brian is an outstanding guide and he provided fun facts and history along the way... as we are seniors, he was patient and showed us all the riding tips we needed for our fun day! Big thank you to his wife Melanie for getting us all set up and working with us to provide a unique experience in Bend! We would highly recommend Smith Rock Trail Rides for anyone looking for a fantastic outdoor adventure!

Brian is an excellent guide and takes wonderful care of his horses. The scenery is amazing and I doubt you'll find it anywhere else. The horses are well trained so if you're a beginner or experienced rider you'll enjoy your scenic ride around Smith Rock. ENJOY!

My boyfriend and I had the most amazing sunset trail ride. The scenery was breathtaking, the horses were delightful and the Brian was outstanding. We highly recommend!

Brian and Melanie run a great outfit. The horses are beautiful, well trained and cared for. Brian gives great instructions to start you out and you are in capable hands. The scenery is beautiful.

What a fun time we had with Brian Melanie and their fantastic and reliable horses. Brian is instructive and patient with all types of riders. And the scenery along the way is a huge WOW! Couldn’t recommend more highly. Do it!
