I went to this small but perfectly formed nature reserve last week and what a brilliant experience. I had a good walk round the reserve, down the river path, next to the lagoon where volunteers were very busy, up to the dipping pond, past the meadow, over the Bailey Bridge and into the bird viewing area with my camera. I was treated to a feast of Blue tits, a Great tit, Chaffinch and Jay; I got some really good photographs. I then went to the Visitor Centre where I got chatting to members of the Wildlife Group over tea and biscuits! All in all, an experience which I will repeat. Often!

Very pleasant if you need to walk on the flat. You can combine the walk with canal walks for many miles in both directions. car parking area is small a bit boggy in wet weather but adequate

I tried to take my dad here after reading several reviews stating that it was suitable for wheelchairs. I guess it depends on what type of chair you have and what your health is like. I have a RADAR key for access, but the paths are not tarmacked (I think I was probably naive in thinking they were, but I wanted to be sure that other wheelchair users were aware). He was so shaken by the path that he felt sick and asked to go back. Parts of the path had big puddles and were not passable. In short, it is a woodland path, which for a woodland path is very good. It is perfectly suitable for pushchairs and would be suitable for some wheelchair users, but it is not easy pushing someone and for someone in poor health with no suspension on their chair, then I think it is not very suitable. But it is passable if you can navigate some inclines and don't mind being shaken. The path by the canal was good though and we had a nice walk along there instead.

Superb location lots to explore, bird watching (and squirrels), canal, river, fields and trees, who could want more. Lots of dog bins as well.

This is a local gem. Should have scored 5 💥.However many people ignore advisory signs ie dogs to be on leads, no bikes. Typical antisocial, undisciplined behaviour, spoiling our experience. I am not a pensioner, bird watcher or suffering from head up bum syndrome. Just a member of the public who respects rules.

Had a great walk this morning, with an interesting guide (David) telling us about the history and development of this site, pointing out things we probably would otherwise not have noticed. It would be so much better if everyone followed the instructions to keep their dogs on leads, particularly not letting them go into the ponds where the volunteers are trying to eradicate some very invasive plants. It might be fun for dogs but just spreads these unwelcome plants to other parts of the site. It's a nature reserve not a free for all dog run! A cup of tea after the walk was very welcome!

For years this was a nice quiet place to walk your dogs. It has now become an over populated hell. If your dog as much as sneezes or you dare to step on a twig you get a verbal bashing from the ‘professional’ bird twitches. For dog walkers it would be an easier life to walk on the M62 in rush hour. It has become a haven for pompous pensioners with their head firmly up there own posterior

Our first visit today, good paths for little ones to walk along or to have a pushchair on. Lovely bird feeding area, lots of birds coming and going to watch. The pond dipping area wasn’t as lively and also quite a hazard for little ones as large gap between platform and water!

Have had a few lovely walks and bike rides this half term week. Boys loved going on canal side on their bikes and we enjoyed watching the birds at the nature reserve bird feeding station. We managed to see a jay as well as all the tits , robins and blackbirds.
Had a picnic then afterwards. We brought all our own food, but there’s a man on a boat selling drinks, biscuits and I think ice cream (not sure) .

The nearest car park is round the back of Norwood interiors (free) it's then about a 15 minute walk alternatively park down by Avocet, but this is not a car park, then just a 5 min walk.
I was planning to bring a group of cub scouts for a visit one Monday (date to be arranged) evening and was wondering if there would be someone to show us around and provide birding information.
We are based in Todmorden and therefore the time we could arrive would be around 6.30pm..
