This museum is a gem. We had a wonderful guide (Wayne) who gave us a very detailed and thoughtful tour and very patiently answered all of our questions. The museum displays were informative and interesting and told about the mining process and the life of the miners and the mine owners. I would have liked to have had more time to spend in the room where the separating equipment is kept. This was a highlight of our visit to Cornwall. Even if you don’t have a particular interest in the mining process, this museum is just fascinating.

We visited on a Sunday morning and had a guided tour with David Ager (Chairman of the Trust?) who was friendly, very knowledgeable (in a modest way) and amusing. As well as the tour we had plenty of free time to look at the exhibits. We spent about 2 hours in the museum. A visit here will help put the visible and distant heritage of Cornwall’s mineral exploitation into perspective, whether you are relatively well-informed or know nothing about hard rock mining.
We had lunch in the Croust Shack on the site (independent cafe) and really enjoyed our meal, which was more Asian than Cornish but none the worse for that! Not a pasty in sight or on site.

Amazing !!
The dedication by volunteers to run this museum is amazing. Their knowledge, friendliness and enthusiasm exudes and with an amazing cafe next door that serves such delicious food with an Asian twist was a real find and delicious.
Definitely returning for both

Well worth a visit which deserves to be more widely publicised. (Tourist Information in St. Ives had not heard of this brilliant museum.). Alan, our guide, imparted his knowledge of the tin mining industry and the history of the Kind Edward mine and its importance as a training establishment with enthusiasm, clarity and the odd bit of humour! Their is much to see and the various processes for extracting the tin were demonstrated on original machinery. Totally fascinating and enjoyable and you are left with nothing but great respect for the brave men, women and children who worked the mines over the centuries.

Camborne is surrounded by tin/copper mines and this museum contains many working exhibits of the machinery. They prefer to send you round in groups with a guide but it's better to go at your own pace, as the exhibits have a lot of information provided which you don't have time to read if you're being hosted. Also, our guide (Wayne) ought to keep his left-wing political views to himself, even having a dig at Prince William who had only been the Duke of Cornwall for 3 days at the time. There is a good cafe on site and plentiful parking. Dogs are accepted everywhere. Well worth a visit.

If you’re looking for something into do we can certainly recommend this place. Very knowledgeable guides. Great exhibition and plenty of hands on things for children. The attached cafe is brilliant too.

Great guide who brought the exhibits to life and gave us the benefit of his extensive knowledge. We could never have got as much from the visit without him. Seeing working exhibits was also a huge surprise and fascinating. Great value for money.

What a fabulous little place! We arrived as the museum opened at 10am and were greeted with friendly smiling faces. Our guide was Paul and he was brilliant. Really knowledgeable and entertaining.
We learnt lots that we didn’t know and the morning flew by.
Lovely cuppa and cake in the cafe too!

An eye opening experience,learning the depth of Cornwall's industrial mining past-conveyed enthusiastically by experienced and knowledgeable guides-through the many still working exhibits of machinery and artifacts.
Literally a fascinating chance to see below the green and picturesque surface to see the now mostly unseen workings that shaped much of it.A thoroughly absorbing place,with the bonus of a terrific café/tea room,with a lovely garden setting to enjoy their delicious wares.

I did not have high expectations but I could not have been more pleasantly surprised. This was excellent. The manager of the site gave us the tour himself and he was so passionate and knowledgeable.
The thing that made this so good was the guided tour where he brought the exhibits to life. Having someone talk you through it makes all the difference.
We learnt so much; how the tin ore was extracted, refined and purified. The history and status today. Perfect.

KEM is closed every winter open May - Sept). Sometimes it is possible to arrange group tours on Sundays in winter when the volunteers are on site. However, this year there is extensive restoration work going on and the museum is more like a building site.
You would be very welcome to come to our Open Day (always last Sunday in April) check website for details in the spring.
