Expecting big crowds we went early - still plenty of people and their dogs. Great riverside location and a few nice places to sit and for children to play. Stalls were also busy - the queues on the pizza and ice cream stalls were prohibitive. Nice to walk around, see people being enterprising and happy.

Hi Trish. It happens a lot, but you've left a review for the wrong market. We're a farmers market held on Tuesday afternoons at the same location. If you're still in town, I hope you'll come along.

Great produce and vibe. Fruits and veges in season and locally grown. Heritage varieties and everything tastes the way you remember. All wonderful. Get there early and avoid as many queues as possible. But good food is always worth the wait.

You're so right. And a queue is just an opportunity for a chat! So glad you enjoyed your visit.

What an awesome Community market - much larger than we expected with so much beautiful local fresh organic food, super fresh seafood and very friendly atmosphere. Looking forward to visiting this market agian.

Hi Listen4life
As often happens on our TripAdvisor listing, your review is not for this market. Our market is an authentic farmers market, held on Tuesday afternoons.
Because we're a genuine farmers market, nothing else but food is sold and it is all guaranteed to be local. There are no crafts or tools sold at the market.
Unfortunately, most of the food sold on Saturdays is not local and you must ask before you buy. You cannot afford to assume. Only some of the produce stalls on Saturday mornings are local producers.
I hope when you return to Moruya, you will visit our farmers market at Riverside Park from 3pm on Tuesdays.

Some confusion seems to exist...The photo shows the Saturday Moruya Country Market....possibly the largest weekly market south of Sydney....massive array of stalls
including most of the bigger produce stalls that are the main feature of the much smaller Tuesday market
The Moruya Country Market on Saturdays not only offers a much bigger range of produce, plus handcrafts, clothing, CDs/Records lots choice of "Eats"...pizza, kebabs, health foods and donuts....but the also donate thousands of $$$ each year (and have done over the past 35 years) back into sporting and charitable organisations in our community...(without the need of supporting grants)...plus you don't need to wait until the bell rings to make a purchase...The Tuesday Sage Markets serves its purpose but the differentiation must be made between the two

Hi Tony. I agree, there is enormous confusion on TripAdvisor surrounding the SAGE Farmers Market (on Tuesday) and the Moruya Country Market (on Saturday). I have tried to address this every time I see a comment or review that is clearly for the Saturday market. I will keep making the differentiation whenever I can. I also receive a lot of phone calls from people who think they're calling the Saturday market. Perhaps they could consider boosting their marketing activites to help the public differentiate.
They could start with setting up their own TripAdvisor listing, so people could post their reviews and photos to the correct listing. I have reported the photos that are not of our market. However, the main photo IS indeed of our market, as I took it myself and have used it frequently in various online promotional spaces.
While the Saturday market has more stalls, it DOES NOT offer more local produce (veggies, meat, fish etc) than the Tuesday farmers market. The bulk of the fresh fruit & vegetables at the Saturday market is brought in from Sydney wholesale markets. While there is some local produce, the proportion of imported produce at the Moruya Country Market is larger than local produce. This is mainly due to the truck that parks along the river. All imported from wholesalers. Nothing local. They don't grow anything or buy anything direct from a farmer. Ernie, Luke and Queen Street Growers do grow their own produce (Ernie supplements with produce from Sydney on Saturday) and Queen Street Growers also sell produce from other local growers, but mostly their own (on Saturday).
Similarly, the seafood truck at the entrance is all imported from fish markets. The only local fisher on Saturday is Hropic's Seafood and I would highly recommend people buy from them. They are tucked waaaay down the back near the river. Our market on Tuesday is very fortunate to also have Narooma Seafood Direct. All locally caught. All direct from the fisher. It's almost unheard of for a farmers market to offer two local fishers selling direct to the public.
ALL the fresh produce sold at the SAGE Farmers Market is locally farmed and harvested and it's all directly from the farmer or fisher. There are NO AGENTS at the farmers market. Even Ernie. He only sells his own produce on Tuesdays.
Our market also returns all our profits to the community, however, as SAGE is an organisation whose purpose is to support and develop local agriculture, all the funds raised go towards training new market gardeners and other programs that facilitate the growth of agriculture in our area.
Farmers markets are a specific type of market that explicitly excludes handicrafts and other products that are not food (with a few very small exceptions). Because we also set a regional boundary, only farmers and producers within that defined region are eligible to come to the market, which keeps it authentically a market of local businesses, supporting fellow members of our local community. So no, we don't have as many stalls, but we have measured our economic impact on the local community and it's quite significant. Over $3million per annum for stall holders and the surrounding businesses. And that's not counting the funds we direct towards training more market gardeners.
The bell is necessary as we are an afternoon market, which creates a very different customer behaviour to a market that starts early on a Saturday morning. We introduced the bell, because customers were pressuring stall holders to sell earlier and earlier before the official start at 3pm, which was unfair to other customers who came later and also made it difficult (and occasionally unsafe) for the stall holders and customers when setting up.
Thank you for the opportunity to explain some of the differences between the two markets.

I am not going to pretend that this is an unbiased review, because I am involved in the running of the market. The market is now 5 years old and has grown from 12 stalls to the current size of around thirty. Because it is an authentic farmers market, you know that the person at the stall has grown, raised or caught the produce, or in the case of value added goods, made it themselves from mostly local produce. All produce comes from no more than 160km away (the old 100 mile rule).
Because the focus of a genuine farmers market should be about fresh primary produce, there are two primary producer stalls for every value added one.
The aim of the markets is to 'grow the growers' and to support the local food system.
Being a weekly market, you can do a normal weekly shop here. As well as all manner of seasonal vegetables and fruit you will find fish. meat, eggs, honey, bread, jams, oil, wine, cheese, cakes and pies, oysters, and coffee.
The market has twice won the 'most outstanding farmers market' award from ABC delicious magazine.
Every week is different, you may have to queue for some things, the 3 o'clock rush can be a bit squeezy, especially in the holidays, but if you want a taste of fair dinkum local food on the far South Coast, this is where to go.
Riverside Park Moruya every Tuesday at 3pm.

Sage Farmers Market is on Tuesday at 3pm. When the 3pm bell sounds you can make your purchases. The seafood seems most popular but I lined up for the meat from Greenway farm, which was absolutely delicious. I also got fresh baked bread, fruit and vegetables, a jar of strawberry jam, eggs, homemade dog treats and some yummy hot pies. There was also wine and other homemade condiments sold. Everything was so tasty.
This is a farmers market so they don’t sell Knick knacks here. It’s a good idea to take cash and smaller change because most stalls don’t have eftpos. Also take a shopping bag, not everywhere had bags.
People had there dogs here, all on lead. It had a great community feel. The market isn’t that big and food sells out quickly, so don’t go late. It’s hot there in the sun too so take your hat on a hot day.

I love Markets, so I was excited to find that there was one happening during my stay at Moruya. Surprisingly, Moruya is an awesome town for shopping, and their Markets is just as good.
There is a wide variety of stalls, including food and drink, and I left there several hundred dollars lighter, with jewellery and antiques being my major bargains.
It’s also picturesque, held right on the river bank. A handy walk to the above mentioned shops completes a fulfilling day of shopping.

Hi Jennifer.
I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Moruya, however the market you describe is not this market. We're a farmers market, selling only local food, so there's no jewellery or antiques on sale. We operate every Tuesday afternoon from 3pm at the same location. If you like food as much as antiques, you would have LOVED our market. Maybe you'll come along if you're ever in town again?
There is also a regular general market on Saturday mornings, which is the one you visited. You might like to leave a review for that market, so they get to feel the love.
Regards,

Firstly I need to clear up that reviews on here appear to be about the Saturday market which is not the same thing as the Sage Farmers Market which is late Tuesday afternoons.
The Sage market is small and can run out quickly in peak holiday times as it is a FARMERS MARKET. They can't make their crops produce more just because you're in town!!!
A good selection of fresh fruit, veg, honey, meat and bread. Its a nice way to support the LOCAL COMMUNITY wherever you are from!

Hi Michelle.
Thanks for your review, but I'm not sure if you're in the right place! We're a farmers market, so we don't sell crafts (other than a few candles and soaps made with food byproducts) and we operate every Tuesday from 3pm. Perhaps you visited the general market at the same location on a Saturday?
If so, you might like to leave a review for them, so they get to feel the love.
If you did in fact visit our market, then... thanks!!
Best regards.
