Roper Mountain Science park was a great idea that continues to improve. I acane from out of state and was amazed at the inventiveness and quality. My hat is off to Greenville.

Our 3 sons attended multiple summer day camps at RMSC. They still talk about how much fun they were. Must have been great because they are now 18, 21 and 24 and the impression remains.

Great place to take your children and very interesting for the adults also. Lots of hands on things to experience and very friendly staff and helpful staff. The outside grounds and walking paths were very nice!

This was the best family activity we have done in the area. We travel and visit a lot of museums, zoos, and science centers, and this gem in Greenville, SC ranks up at the top. If you purchase day tickets, you can apply them to a membership at the end of your day there-great deal! We started our day at the farm at the farthest corner of the property. My kids had a blast. They have rock panning, where each kid can pan and identify each rock they find (they get to keep 1). The barn has ducks, pigs, sheep, and chickens which you can feed. They have an old log cabin schoolhouse and real log houses where kids can go back in time and actually hands on learn about how life used to function, pumping water from a well, using handmade wooden toys, catching fish. All of the staff at each exhibit spent so much time explaining little nuances to the children and really engaging them. The heritage garden was gorgeous with lots of planted vegetables the kids could identify and touch, lots of plants and flowers as well. There were ample picnic tables and outdoor restrooms out there—also water bottle filling stations. The Harrison Hall of Natural Science was truly worth a visit in itself. It is the most hands on engaging high-end science facility we have experienced. They have tanks of fish, reptiles, petting tanks for the aquatics (again, super engaging staff), they have tables set up in each room with hands on skeletons, animal furs, shells, puzzles, tracing activities, virtual reality headsets (my kids really enjoyed the dinosaur and ocean simulations), kinetic sand topography table… there is so much to do in that one building alone. The new main center has an unbelievable dinosaur room with games, fossils, simulators. They have a cafeteria downstairs, but it is closed right now with them freshly reopening after Covid. We cannot wait to go back for the Friday night planetarium shows. They have a new outdoor Dinosaur Adventure Trail with realistic life sized dinosaurs throughout the walk. My kids loved it. There are also outdoor playgrounds. If you are able to sign up for summer camp, we hear it’s an unbelievable experience for your children. This place is incredible! Go!

I'll admit that I'm a little biased because I've been volunteering at RMSC off and on for about 15-yrs. They try their best to deliver a quality experience, and hopefully after COVID-19 abates they can resume likewise. The construction of a new building with state-of-the-art features continued during the pandemic, and is now set to open. RMSC was already a jewel, but now it will shine brighter. Whether your interest is the natural sciences or a demonstration farm, RMSC will not disappoint. For several years, until COVID-19, they had an annual butterfly experience, where you were immersed in butterflies with a magic wand to attract them. They have always had a great little farm where you could see heirloom vegetables whose seeds go back a hundred years , Saturday events where you could visit the half-dozen heritage buildings that were dismantled from someone's old homeplace and reassembled at RMSC, and goats you can feed, and blacksmith and woodworking areas to visit on select Saturdays. Volunteers abound and make everything work. They have a Planetarium with the latest projector and an observatory with one of the largest telescopes in the country. The Butterfly Garden is exquisite, and is maintained by Greater Greenville Master Gardeners. Wholly owned by Greenville County School for the past 20 years or so, it is the ultimate field trip. A visit to Greenville on a Saturday when RMSC is open to the public, especially if you have kids, is a must.

My husband and I were in town visiting around Christmas time and looking to fill our day with some fun activities. I found the Christmas laser shows online so we decided to check it out. The science center is on a great piece of land and I bet it's fun to explore the trails, but we were just here for the show. The laser show was cute and entertaining for the holiday season. I think my husband was a little underwhelmed, but that's OK. It didn't cost a lot. I'm sure kids would enjoy it, though!

Thank you for coming to Roper Mountain while visiting the area. We are happy to hear you enjoyed the show and found the price to be fair. We hope you'll come back for some of our other exciting public programming including Second Saturdays, Friday Starry Nights and Butterfly Adventure in the months ahead.

I had been here for an event prior and loved it. And when I was looking for something to do on a Saturday and needing more Instagram pictures and when I saw..pet puppies.I squealed loud enough to be heard at the International Space Station. I knew I had my plans.

Roper Mountain is a science center located near downtown Greenville. They have a number of different learning labs offering hands on learning. They have a historical farm with farm animals. They also have a Planetarium. They are part of the Greenville School System. So this is more of a learning lab for kids and a place for field trips. BUT this is by no means a kids only attraction that adults should avoid. They have butterflies in the summer, second Saturday events, and planetarium events. In fact just looking for information for this review I spied the holiday light show at the planetarium and one of those featured the group TSO..so I know what I will be doing next month. But these events are all open to the public and offer something for both adults as well as the kids.

The first time we were here it was for the butterflies. In the rainforst lab they have dozens of beautiful butterflies flitting and fluttering around. That is usually held in the summer. And do you ever get to old to enjoy the sheer beauty of butterflies? And they do have a butterfly garden outside as part of their campus that adults will enjoy strolling through. But I was back this time for a second Saturday event which was the fall festival. And when I see I can pet things..you can bet I get excited. They do have a living history barn. There are about a dozen historical buildings including a slave cabin. You can see demonstrations of how early settlers lived, cooked, and made things.

I arrived and headed straight to the farm. I went in and out of buildings watching people demonstrating how to weave fabric, how they gathered water, how they cooked as well as a blacksmith and how they made weapons. They have a herb garden which I loved strolling around and now I wished I had asked someone what they did with the flowers that were drying. The sunflowers would look perfect in one of my fall wreaths. On this day they had a gentleman and his dogs demonstrating sheep hearding. And it was just fascinating to watch these dogs who did not take their eyes off the sheep for a second. He had several dogs with him that you could pet but they seemed more intrested in the sheep than head scratches. You could pet them (and I sure did) but they were more focused on the sheep that you. They do have a cow, a horse, sheep, and Wilbur the pig that you can give scratches to. At this event they had puppies they were helping get adopted out and you could pet. And I think there were more adults waiting to pet a puppy than kids. I love animals with all my heart and lost my boy last year. So it is a wonder they didn't have to use the jaws of life to remove that puppy once I was holding it. I also enjoyed the cooking demonstration and it smelled heavenly in there. But sadly no free samples.

I am child free and usually not big on any place where there are lots of kids. But one of the things that impressed me was seeing so many kids wanting to draw water, churn butter, and taking such an intrest in something other than their phone. They were also enjoying the science labs, which adults will enjoy as well. They have a small rainforest which is just beautiful. I love going in and seeing the frogs though I skipped right past the spiders and cockroaches. And they were in tanks and the kids were playing with them (why I do not know) but they were put there and not the place has a roach problem. The aquarium will delight anyone especially the touch tanks where you can pet sting rays and star fish to name a few sea critters. I did go in one lab and there was a big spider in the corner so I slowly backed me way out. Yes this was a huge fake spider but I do not like spiders..real or fake.

They are generally open just during the week expect for the public events on Satuday. And it is during the public events that I think adults..even child free adults..will enjoy this place. I would imagine during the week this place is for school groups and other groups such as scouts. And on this last visit I seen a bunch of scout groups. In fact a girl scout group provided free duck food. I have no idea for what as I never saw any ducks. So afterwards I took mine and headed to falls park and fed the ducks there.

This place is very accesible for those with disabilities. Parking is free. They do have restrooms and a gift shop. And according to the squished penny website they still have their machine here. Last time it was located at the learning lab but I didnt see it this time (I may have over looked it). During public events they do have food trucks. Again check the website for those public events because I can not recommend them enough.

This is a great place for everyone, even if you are child free. And they are only about 3 miles from Reedy Falls Park so it would be an awesome day of you plan both stops in one trip.

Thank you so much for your support of Roper Mountain and for sharing such great visual details of what we have to offer at our Second Saturday events. We wanted to clarify that we are closed during the week so that we can provide hands-on lessons for school groups only. We are open on Friday evenings for Friday Starry Nights, select Saturdays for Second Saturday events and then select days for other public events - like Butterfly Adventure and Laser Shows. The squished penny machine is in the Hooper Planetarium now - check it out when you come for a Holiday Laser Show! Thank you again for your support.

We enjoyed the experience of being able to touch a shark, and hold a snake and tree frog. The deadly rain forest frogs were so colorful. Absolutely loved the miniature rain forest walk through and all the lush trees.

We love to hear what a great (and hands-on) learning experience you had on a field trip. We hope you will come back to visit during an upcoming public program to see the other parts of the mountain you didn't get to see during the field trip. Thank you again for your support!

Visited at night during Christmas. Nice lights, nice experience, but nothing too special. Not much to do other than drive through the lights. Enjoyed, but would not return. Hopefully in the daytime there is more to explore :)

Your review is for the Holiday Lights that was put on by a separate entity of Roper Mountain. This is an event that no longer takes place. Thank you so much and we hope you will come visit Roper Mountain Science Center for one of our upcoming public events.

If you have kids sign up to become a member and go to the second Saturday events they are WONDERFUL. A lot of hands on demonstrating, the kids get to try making things and every month it is a new theme/learning. Starry nights are really cool too. Can't say enough about here so much to do and creates a fun science world for the kids to enjoy and want to learn more.
