We travel to Hilton Head Island to ride our bikes on the long trail system. Unfortunately the town of Hilton Head has let overgrowth spawn on their trails. Many times I had to duck my head or swerve my bike to avoid branches and overgrowth on the trails. Inside Sea Pines Plantation they have cleaned up the overgrowth and the trails are fantastic, but you must pay $10 a day to ride inside Sea Pines Plantation.

Hilton Head is so bike friendly! Renting a bike was easy at Wheelz, I had a trike, and it was so useful to pick up groceries and carry beach bags on the bike. There is even a bike service area outside of Cologny beach, for air and various tools for tightening anything for your bike. The bike paths are wide, including while crossing the roads. We had a blast!

At Palmetto Dunes the trails were fabulous! The Outfitters bike rentals group was so nice to work with!

The bike trails at Hilton Head are so easy to navigate. Our favorite route is riding along the beach at low tide and then going on the boardwalk trails to the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. If you don’t want to take your own bikes, you can rent bikes easily from many available vendors. Enjoy the varied landscape that is so easily accessible on HHI!

Our favorite park of our trip was biking around the island! Definitely a must to make the most out of your stay. We had littles and used a bike trailer and we’re able to bike everywhere on the trail. We felt very safe and most cars were very vigilant for bikers which is a big change from back home in Ohio. The trail is pleasant, well-maintained and has racks everywhere.

Hilton Head is well known for it's bicycle transportation. The Island Bike Trails are clearly marked and very smooth. They can be crowded and take care passing other riders. The relaxing atmosphere is extremely pleasant and a must do.

The bike trails are mostly along a very busy 4 lane road. Sometimes the path just ends or becomes the width of a very narrow sidewalk. The short path near the RV Motorcoach campground was nice till the Wexford dumped their pond dredgings along it. Bikes do not have the right of way so one is expected to stop at every street or parking lot. Finally, the riders tend to be a rude bunch. Rarely does a biker announce themselves as they are passing pedestrians or other bikers. To make the circle around the island requires going over a bridge where there is no separation from the traffic - not comfortable for the average biker

Hilton Head is wonderful almost year round by bike. The trails are well marked and sometimes must go on and across roads, but the traffic is respectful. You can see the whole island this way.

Yes, there are plenty of trails within the trees and quieter areas of the island.

rent, rather than bringing own unless want very specific features on your bike; we ruined 2 bikes in the past with the weather damage taking our bikes on the back of our car; not necessary; very happy with the bikes provided in Hilton Head

Best bike trails in the world!
First time visiting HHI. Will be there late June. Am very excited about the bike trails...Are the they crowded?

Bike trails are all over the island and most are paved - they can get a little crowded during the summer but you can always find trails that are less traveled! We ride a lot when we go! Also, the beaches are so wide, firm and packed that you can easily ride bikes on the beach. One tip, ride into the wind going out so that it is at your back on the return trip :) Hope you have a great time!

Do you have to stay as a guest on the island to be able to ride your bike or is there somewhere you can park and ride?

They are public. Park wherever you want. A strip mall parking lot works. The trails are everywhere, so park, unload your bikes and go. There are several bike rental places. Look up on TripAdvisor.

Yes you do not have to rent a bike on the island to enjoy the bike trails. A lot of people use their own bikes. The bike trails are like wide sidewalks. You share the sidewalks with people who are walking. You stay to one side of the sidewalk and the walkers stay to the other. The wide sidewalks help to keep bikers off the roads so it us safer fir them

They will not let you in even if you try to pay the only way you can get into Sea Pines is if you have your bikes on a car rack and pay the car fee you may not ride bites past the gate unless you are a resident of Sea Pines or are staying there
