This was a short stop. Nothing was open so my friend and I had the area to ourselves. There is a monument and historical marker. Not much else to see, but the businesses may have good wares when open. Parking available on site.

I walked in not sure what to expect, all eyes on the new visitors. The new owner, Karl, immediately stepped out and shook my hand, introduced himself and showed me around. He was so kind to our kids, and told us as many stories about the history of the area. I truly felt at home here. Truly a "step back in time," A step back to a better time. I wish every place was as personable and "slow living" such as here. I even got some grits!

Traveler beware! Yes this is a quaint, historical area with several buildings and an old Mill/pond, but do not park in a designated area and attempt to take a photograph. The owner/steward of the properties is not friendly and he frowns upon visitors. If he sees you, then expect to be confronted despite the fact that are several markers of historical significance nearby that were erected by the state of South Carolina. The lady that owns the Broom Place is quite friendly, however, I will never patronize any of the local businesses or Boykin Mill Farms. 5/5/2018

My friend and I stopped by Boykin while traveling to a local farm. There is a lot of history there if you can find the right person to talk with. Unfortunately we were not able to tour the mill, nor the church, but the woman in the broom shop was very friendly and informative. This is a must visit place especially for Civil War buffs.

This place is the birth home of the South Carolina State Dog, the Boykin Spaniel. The little store, Boykin Mill Store, also has a neat little restaurant, where the burgers are handmade patties.
Our dogs, Boykins, were welcomed on the patio. Our server, Tandria, was the best. She brought water for the pups and even shared her lunch pork chop with them:)
The burgers were juicy and big, the turkey club was delicious, the fish sandwich was huge and perfect and the fried pickles were to die for.
Not much of a place to look at, but a neat stop with great food. The entire town of Boykin consists of six various business buildings, a church and two homes!
Amazing how such a small place produced such a great dog.

We didn't get to go inside because they were closed. You can buy the stone ground cornmeal and grits across the road in an old country store. We also visited the Broom Shop next year where Susan Simpson has been constructing brooms for 40 years. She sews the straw on a machine that is 170 years old. She will take orders, but is 2 years behind in her production. Really enjoyed talking to her.

We haven't been able to catch the mill open yet but we enjoy going out and walking around in Boykin. There is a historical marker and they just reopened the old store for meals.

Boykin's Millpond must be visited to really be appreciated. The Broom Shop, General Store, and Steakhouse are really in a league all their own.

The Boykin farm and mill are a step back in time. It's fun to see the grist mill working and watching the making of hand made brooms. The general store is a fun place to eat. Not a huge place or something that takes a huge time to visit, but well worth a visit.

This is a nice little spot in rural South Carolina. great stop to experience country living. The old mill is a classic beauty. The broom shop and country store are classic-like stepping back in time. The restaurant has a good reputation for quality. The location has a historical story to it. A skirmish in The Civil War took place here. A nice monument to the famed Massachusetts 54th infantry is located here. The location is not that far off the interstate. If in the area-stop by and enjoy this peaceful stop.
