I throughly enjoyed my experience at the Penn Center the staff is amazing, friendly, and knowledgable. The information that they provided was great. ALL staff members treated us like family and we felt welcome. I was taking my mother on a last minute road trip from Wilmington to Jacksonville and we unknowingly ended up taking a trip along the Gulla Geechee region!! Please take the Docent-Guided Tour it is well worth it. I will be visiting for the 39th Annual Heritage Celebration Nov 9-11!!

I thoroughly enjoyed a great slide and live presentation by a member of the Gullah Geechee community. Although I did not have time to complete the tour of the property, I could tell it was impressive, if you enjoy history. Although donations are welcome, there is no fee.

If you have an interest in the Gullah people, their history and their culture, don't miss the Penn Center. The staff is gracious and informative, adding a personal touch to the tremendous amount of information the center provides. The 'campus'feels like one of those sacred spaces where you feel you are standing on the grounds of an important part of history.

We went here because we were interested in the history. The grounds are pretty much a do on your own kind of place. They give you a map that ids the buildings but doesn’t tell you anything about them or provide much information. All the buildings were closed so you just walk around the exterior. I’m sure there is an interesting story here but they haven’t really tried to explain or present it to visitors

Reconstruction history was brought to life with the short film and the rich and varied exhibits. After completing the ranger-guided program that morning in Beaufort, a visit to Penn Center provided a comprehensive look at the transformation of life in the low country. What a fascinating time for social change in America!

I visited the Penn center on September 15 with a group of travelers. I was so proud to have the opportunity to have Dr Gibb teach us about the history of the Gullah Geechee culture and the slave ancestors. I suddenly felt provoked to become better knowledgeable about my culture and also to embrace the horrible journey they endured to gives us our dynamic identity and presence on this earth. She stressed that we should always be willing to learn about our culture so that we can teach it to our successors. Thank you.

We went for a second time to Penn Center this last week. It's hallowed ground and worth every penny to gain the knowledge offered here.

We stayed with a group of 8 at Pine Cottage on the Penn Center grounds and had a tour of the museum with Dr. Marie Gibbs. It is not to be missed. We learned so much about the school at the Penn Center and post-emancipation life in general. Above all, we felt we were on hallowed ground. A tour and visit that everyone should take!

This is a gold mine that we stumbled upon. The young lady at the museum provided such detailed information about the Penn School because she actually attended the school years ago. The ladies in the Welcome Center was informative as well. I would encourage everyone to visit this unique and interesting place.
