Definitely recommend!

This place and the people are wonderful!! Our family (we have 3 girls ages 6, 9, and 11) had a great time. So far it's been the highlight of our trip! Everyone was very friendly both on the phone when I made reservations and during the event. We took the one-hour trail ride, which was great for our girls. Only one of them had ever ridden before, and T&M was very patient with the girls who were hesitant. The ride was so enjoyable-the ride was so peaceful and beautiful. Definitely recommend. If we come back to the Black Hills, we will for sure be repeat customers.

I echo the very dissatisfied review. Generally u r welcomed with a hardy greeting. Not here. My party was very rudely told we needed to move my truck. I don’t remember the lil gal’s name, I’m not sure she ever told us. She did relate her medical history for the entire 1 1/2 hrs. Brought 2 very rowdy dogs that constantly charged away then back. The horses spooked and skittered at the constant shock of her calling them back.
I’ve never had dogs along on a trail-ride. EVER.
I am an experienced horse woman. Owned my own in years past. I ride every chance I get. If places we visit have rental stables, I go riding. I asked a question about flora & fauna, zip, zilch, zero info. Continuing medical diatribe relating injuries occurring while riding.
I sure do believe she’s in the wrong business.
Rude, detached, negative, 23 yo blonde narcissist, kid.

Make sure to call T & M day of reservation to ensure its not canceled

Booked the reservation over a month in advanced. Horse back riding was the focal activity of this trip for young daughter (she had done horse camp this summer and was so excited to ride with me) When I made the reservation they told us to be sure to dress for weather. It rained for about two hours with maybe an accumulation of a quarter inch of precipitation an hour before our scheduled trial ride. We arrived 30 minutes early (no rain or puddles or mud) and no one in sight. I called their number 5 minutes before reservation and she said that she texted me 2.5 hours earlier stating it was canceled. I had not received a text and we verified that she had text the wrong number. She said “sorry” and that’s it. We drove over an hour each way from our cabin to get there. I know it’s off season and we were just 2 people. I just wish they were more thorough in communicating cancellations. A phone call… especially after not getting a text reply … or could have sent an email as that is how our communication originated. I guess if the apology seemed more genuine I wouldn’t have taken the time to write this on trip advisor. My main point is to make sure to call day of reservation to ensure it’s not canceled if you are driving out of your way for it

Beautiful Ride, great guides!

We had a great experience with T&M from start to finish. Making a reservation was quick and easy. When we arrived they were ready for us within minutes. All of the staff were very friendly and were great with my young daughter. They were happy to answer any questions she came up with about the horses and were so patient and helpful with her. Our guide, Maddie, was awesome! She gave us tips when we needed it and answered any questions we had and made sure we all remembered to keep hydrated since it was a super hot day. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. We did the 1 1/2 hour ride and our surroundings constantly changed. We walked next to a creek, a beautiful rock wall, through an aspen grove, through a field of wild flowers, through forest, crossed a creek, and had inclines and declines. We could not have asked for a more beautiful ride. We'll be back again for sure! BONUS: We didn't realize until we showed up that they try not to mix groups! So for us, it was just me, my daughter and the guide. So personal and made all the difference! If you are going to go horseback riding in the Black Hills, definitely go with these wonderful guides!

Disappointing experience

Based on other reviews, I had pretty high expectations for this adventure, and chose it over a competitor because it was a bit cheaper and closer to where we were staying. But, in hindsight, I wish we had chosen the other option. We were not greeted when we arrived. Our guide, and a gentleman, who I assume was one of the owners, were conversing, but neither acknowledged me as I stood there within a few feet of them for several minutes. We were given maybe 15 seconds of instruction despite being quite novice and having 2 kids in our group of four. We weren't given any information about our horses other than their names (and even had to ask for the name of one). The scenery wasn't unique or special compared to what you can find almost anywhere in the Black Hills. Our guide didn't talk to us at all unless we asked her a question. So we pretty much rode in silence for 1.5 hours. Which was peaceful, I guess, but also kind of uncomfortable. It was pretty clear our guide did not want to be there. We expected we might learn something about the horses, the area, anything. We learned afterwards that our guide was extremely under the weather, which explains things. But that was not our fault and resulted in an experience that did not live up to our expectations. Also, we weren't offered any facilities before our after our trip (not even sure if there was a toilet available or a place we could have changed or washed our hands) and nobody offered to take a photo of our group at any point. Disappointing experience, as this was one of the most anticipated plans of our trip to SD.

The Highlight of Our Vacation

What a great day. Our kids had never been horseback, and Tammy and Katie were the ultimate in making them comfortable and making the ride enjoyable. My wife and I have been on trail rides before, and this was by far the best one. This was the highlight of our vacation and the kids are already asking if we can go back to the Hills and go horseback riding again. A huge thank you to Tammy, Katie, Peaches, Molly, Jade, and Jack!!

Perfect ride

Our guide, Kayley, led us on a perfect ride, just my husband and me. We rode through timber, grassland, and even through a creek. The horses were gentle and well-behaved, and we enjoyed spectacular scenery. Kayley was helpful and friendly.

Great little trail ride

My daughter (who had never ridden a horse before) and I spent an hour on a trail ride. Our guide, Brooke, was very patient with us at a leisurely pace. The horses were very tame and Tammy and family were very friendly.

Our group of five rode through the Black Hills National Park on horseback. It was great fun as we wandered through the forest, following a meandering creek and through a grove of aspen trees.
Tammy, the owner of T & M Trail Rides is a great horsewoman and fitted each of us to the perfectly tempered horse. I am a paraplegic and had not risen in years yet that did not stop Tammy and her crew from making a fabulous day for our family.

Riding the Black Hills National Forest

What a great experience for my family and I. We are beginner horse riders (my wife and I, children ages 14, 11, and 6) and Tammy and Wyatt took great care of us. Tammy outfitted us and helped us on our horses (Mud, Molly, Sadie, Skylar, and Boomer). Wyatt led us on a two hour ride. The trails were not difficult to navigate. The sights along the trails were amazing. Wyatt was fantastic. He taught us about our horses, their personalities and how to handle each based on their traits. He gave us some insight to the area and shared a little about his life. We saw at least four deer during our ride with lots of birds, squirrels and rabbits along the way. Max the dog walked the whole trip. Helmuts are required for children under 12 and optional for everyone else. It was a great two hour ride and we'd recommend T&M Trail Rides to anyone.
