I don't know where to begin. My 2 sisters and I went to the Big South Fork Recreation area for our annual horseback riding trip. We rented horses from Southeast Pack trips and what a great experience! We did 3 half day rides and 1 all day ride to Charit Creek Lodge. We are all experienced riders and Larry McMillian the owner made sure we had great horses to ride. They live up to their advertising. No boring, nose to tail riding. Larry was our guide for the first 3 rides and he is a hoot! He knows the history of the area and had lots of interesting stories. He was an awesome guide. (Bobby was great too). Can't say enough good things about Southeast Pack trips. If you are thinking about going on a trail ride with them, just do it. You won't regret it!

I can’t say enough good things about Larry and his team. The property is stunning, the horses are amazing. This should is a must do.

If your going to go for a trail ride I highly recommend Southeast Pack Trips! Bobby was so friendly, helpful and fun. We really enjoyed his company along the way! The scenery was very beautiful!!! Have fun!

This was a beautiful winter day and we are inexperienced riders but the experience was pleasant and exhilarating. Larry was kind and patient with is and we enjoyed every minute of our ride. Beautiful scenic surroundings with varied terrain. We would definitely do it again from our vacation rental in Fairview Glade. It was worth the ride to Sparta. Thank you so much.

It was super easy to make the reservation, though it did require a call back. They don’t have a whole office of folks running the place. Make the call, leave a message, be patient. They’re likely on a trail ride. Be warned, they’ll ask the height, weight, and experience of each rider. They want to provide you with the best horse for you. You’ll also be asked to arrive 30 minutes early so as to get you on the horse, get your stirrups right, and receive any instruction needed.
When we arrived, Bobby greeted us heartily. He has a great sense of humor and wit! After using the facilities, we mounted our steeds and got settled for the ride. For the one-hour ride, we were offered an out-and-back or a loop. The difference being, choosing the loop meant moving along at a good clip at times. Loop it was.
Oh my goodness!
We rode through woods, up hills, down hills, across roads, past homes, in mud, across rock, and everything in between. There are places where you guide the horse, and places you let him choose his footing.
There were times we were able to move along at a faster gait and others where we had to take things slow. Bobby was careful to reveal best practices for us as we came to them so as to keep us and the horses safe.
Hubby and I are already talking about a half-day ride, and getting a crew together for an all-day ride. We’ll be back for sure!

We just got back from a trip to Jamestown. Larry and Bobby are awesome. We had 10 in our group -7 of us have our own horses in FL, but did not want to trailer the 10 hours to ride our flatlanders in such mountainous terrain. Larry has a barn full of well conditioned, smooth gaited horses that are a joy to ride. The first day we rode for 14 miles and saw some wonderful scenery. The second day we rode for 21 miles and did an all day ride. We rode out to the old railroad bridge and along the creek. The fall leaf colors were at their peak and the weather was amazing. We had such a great time and Larry is an awesome guide. We are already planning our return trip!! So much easier to ride there than trailer the horses and camp in the LQ. Rock & Roll people!

Riding through the woods and the way Bobby made sure my 11 yr old grand-daughter, wife & i knew when more difficult terrain was coming up before we got there & reminded us on how to handle it. Bobby was GREAT! My wife & I've been on a lot of rides all over the country when camping, Canada too......we have horses at home, but don't bring them camping as we like to boat, hike, etc. & want a little break from our daily chores.......DISREGARD the one or 2 negative reviews out of hundreds, it's BS! For example, Bobby when getting my stirrups pulled down because of my height, didn't like the way my knee was bent, insisted on putting on another saddle on, even though I told him I was good, that's SERVICE! Don't look any farther, book your ride & let Bobby and his horses, all GREAT, do the rest!

Set up for 3 full days to ride Big South Fork Tn. Very excited to do this & was assured we'd be matched with the same speed of gaited horses. We requested slow gaited since one had never ridden a gaited horse. Was assured we'd be matched with the right horse & if we didn't get along with the horse we could get a different one the next day. Horses were saddled before we arrived on day 1. Guide rode a racking horse each day. Inexperienced gaited rider got a horse that wanted to be the lead horse & day 1 was a hilly ride. It was an awful day she had fighting with a horse that wanted to run the entire trail. Larry yelled at her saying she didn't listen & was going to ruin his horse & he just rode off. Day 2 we asked for a different horse & he BLEW up.
Bad, bad experience. Took me this long to be calm enough to write this toned down review.

I had a great ride with Southeast Pack Trips! I rode a little gelding named Bo and he was a blast! I definitely recommend this place for riders because it’s far from your typical nose to tail trail ride! All the horses are gaited and this was my first time on a gaited horse and wow! I was missing out all these years! Great friendly people and healthy happy horses!

A friend and I went on a 4 hour guided horse ride. These are not your typical trail horses, not a nose to tail ride. These horses are gaited and a pleasure to ride. Horses are available for beginners to experienced. The staff is certain to put you with a horse to fit your skill level. The scenery is beautiful and it would be absolutely gorgeous in the spring or fall. Our guide was Kenneth and he was entertaining and informational. It's nice to be able to ride side by side and control the horse where you want it to go instead of where it wants to go. They have short, half day and all day rides. They even have overnight trips. We will definitely be back!
