Most definitely worth a visit while one is in Glenties. We were greeted by very helpful staff who explained the layout of the Museum (it is over three floors) and is packed with artefacts that have been gathered locally. It is exceedingly cheap to visit this Museam and if you have ancestors in the area of Glenties you must visit as you will learn a lot about the area and it's history. Beverages and cakes are also on sale.

I saw this museum during the very busy Magill Summer School and the staff were very friendly and told me about the literary and railway exhibits and the cells out the back! Nice cup of tea too!

We called in to St Connell's Museum in Glenties during our holiday in Donegal. We were met with a typical friendly Irish welcome and given a comprehensive introduction to the exhibits. The museum has a mix of material varying from information about the Great Famine to the local literature icons, Brian Friel and Patrick McGill. The former famous for his play "Dancing at Lughnasa", which is based on Glenties, and the latter for his "navvy poems". AS well as numerous artifacts one can visit the austere cells in the adjacent Courthouse which were used until recently. As well as all the interesting objects one can enjoy a drink and homemade cake. The admission charge of €5 is well worth it and helps support this valuable resource for the local community.

This museum contains a wealth of information about the local area, but the layout of the material it contains is not well organized or easy to follow. The section on the Famine was very interesting and will take a bit of time to read all that is offered. A nice local museum, but not one I would recommend going out of your way to visit. It needs an infusion of cash and some TLC.

Spent an hour going thru this small quaint museum. We are not well acquainted with this part of Ireland and learned plenty about the local literary scene, and about the area in general. Well worth a visit. The curator was well versed in the collection. Enjoyed this bit of local history.

It is worth stopping off to browse the collections of objects, pictures and records of local and Irish interest and there are reminders of the hard times faced through famine, wholesale evictions and flood. The section on Donegal and peat industry railways was particularly good.
The lady curator was chatty and helpful. Recommended.

This is my third year in a row visiting the museum,and I would agree it is great value for money,but I was disappointed in this visit as there were lightbulbs out in various parts of the museum, resulting in it being a real struggle to see quite a lot,and certainly read a lot of things. We did not have the very friendly and talkative lady this time around,instead we had a young man and his friends, who was friendly to a point in that he exchanged pleasantries as we came and went,but there was certainly no conversation us regarding the exhibits. Will no doubt return on a wet afternoon but that's about it.

I wanted a cup of tea and spotted the tables outside and the lady who served me convinced me to visit the museum too.
For only €3 what a treat. Everything from postwar rationing coupons, through toys, domain appliances, butter making churns and exhibits on the County Donegal Railway to the lower half of the rear turret of an RAF Sunderland flying boat.
An eclectic collection well worth 30-45 mins of your time in the pretty town of Glenties.
And the tea was good too though even at 4.30pm on this magical summer day in Donegal, I found it too hot to sit in the sun.
