Beautiful castle situated in St Peter Port. There is an interesting museum within the castle grounds which provides historical information.
There are a lot of steps to negotiate - but you will be rewarded with stunning views of St Peter Port and across the Channel.

Castle Cornet is HAUNTED. I became a Christian when I got solid proof that there is life after death after visiting this castle. I will never visit any castle again. I do not care if people believe me or not. I became a nervous wreck from sleep deprivation caused by fear from what I experienced from visiting Castle Cornet.

We visitied Castle Cornet on our first day in Guernsey, we arrived at about 11:30 straight after coming back from the airport and it was lovely to be greeted by such friendly helpful staff who told us we had arrived just in time for the gun firing at 12pm. The castle is amazing, it's somewhere you could easily spend a good few hours visiting with 3 museums and lots to see and explore, we also found that the castle wasn't that busy which surprised us for a sunny Friday afternoon but it made the experience more fun for us as we pretty much had the place to ourselves at points.
We finished off with lunch at the cafe which we felt was great value for money and very nice.

We visited this on our first morning in Guernsey and made sure we were there for the complimentary 10.30am guided tour, Peter our guide was brilliant. Loads of history which is no surprise for a 13th century building and helped understand it rather than just walk around not knowing what you may be looking at. There is also the daily 12.30 gun fire. The restaurant is very good and overall good value for money, a morning well spent.

This was a breath of fresh air compared to most museums in the uk.
Almost all areas were accessible - seems the rule is you can go anywhere you can see!
Lots of different exhibits and the noon cannon firing was great to watch.
Highly recommended.

A thirteenth century fortress which has changed ownership,due to conflicts between the English,French,Germans during the World Wars and even a Welsh pretender to the throne!
Well worth a visit,either joining one of the castles guided tours or on your own,might think twice before visiting if you have walking difficulties as can be hard going at times with plenty of uneven surfaces,inclines and steps.
Hosts numerous cultural events throughout the year.

Well worth a visit! A tour is informative and interesting- the guide has really researched the castle and attached was very good talk by a chap telling an occupation story- really poignant! The noon gun is so loud and fun

On the Website of the castle there is a list of cultural events taking place every day in summer. We attended a show from Napoloen times, was very typical and entertaining.

We came right when it opened at 10 and caught the walking tour which went from about 10:30 to 11:45, ending just in time to see the cannon at 12. The tour provided a lot of history and interesting facts - recommend if you have the time. There seemed to be more of the castle we could have explored outside of the tour, but we were limited on time. The cannon was very cool and they had some other exhibits that were happening after that - perhaps a little more engaging for a younger crowd than the tour was.

Visited with my son who has special needs & loves history & it is one of the best castles I've ever been to. We both enjoyed a free, guided tour with loads of information, the firing of the cannon & when we were there there was a siege re-enactment. The museums were excellent 7 the gardens lovely.

I used debit cards and English Pounds. Be careful about taking notes off the island though. Channel Island notes are not legal tender elsewhere in the UK. If you withdraw cash from the ATM or break a large bill, you should expect to spend the cash on the island.
Hello,
We are visiting Guernsey next week ( will have car with us) and I forgot that we lose an hour for the check in at the ferry on the return journey. So we only have 3 hours to see a few things. Apart form the Castle could anyone recommend any other places to visit in our short time on the Island? Beaucette Marina etc?

As above, but I would allow longer for the castle. National Trust shop. Bathing Pools (lovely bit of coast). Christie's for coffee/brunch/lunch. Have you checked out the parking? You must buy a time pass, and read up on the rules.

Hi - 10 minute walk along the causeway to the castle. Once inside the museums/cafe/firing of the cannon are nearby and relatively close together. The longer walk would be if you did a circular tour of the castle walls. Plenty of places to rest.

Yes you do have to pay, but it's quite a nice walk down and there are lovely views back towards the town and out to sea.

Hi Kerry,
The cruise ship I was on (Queen Victoria) anchored off shore, it was about a 15 minute tender ride to the port.
Once we got to the port it was literally under a 10 minute walk to the entrance point for the castle.
Have a wonderful time.

Combien coute l entree uniquement pour assister au tir du canon sans les musées. Trop cher pour notre groupe scolaire et manque de temps.Nous arrivons à 11H30 pour repartir a 12h15.

Bonjour je vais a Guernesey avec un grouoe scolaire et je voudrais assister au tir du canon.Par contre nous n aurons pas le temps de visiter les musées. Existe t-il une entrée payante uniquement pour cette manifestation car le prix d entrée avec les musée est très élevé. Merci de votre réponse uniquement
