During our visit it was very windy to reach on foot from the parking lot in about 30 minutes.
On site you can reach the lake via several paths, either comfortably via the path or from behind via the stones.

Visited Foggintor Quarry a few weeks ago with a friend and my dog. Had a lovely walk around the quarry and surrounding area. I've heard from friends that there are leeches in the water so we avoided a swim but I have heard that it is a good wild swimming spot. We walked across to Kings Tor and back through the Quarry ruins again. Not a very strenuous walk at all so I imagine most people could manage it, good for the whole family. It was a surprisingly quiet day so we took lunch and sat at the top of Kings Tor to have it. Stunning views of wild Dartmoor. Highly recommend this walk. I would recommend choosing a sunny/clear day if you want the views - bare in mind this is Dartmoor, the weather changes very quickly so dress appropriately or take waterproofs just incase!

Fantastic walk for families, flat all the way to the quarry, with interesting ruins to see along the way. Fine for a rainy day but better when its clear as you can see the beautiful views. Parking at start with space for around six cars.

We ventured to Foggintor Quarry today and I’m sorry to say that there are definitely leeches in the water . We caught a few and took pictures. They were very placid and seemed completely harmless but it did put us off swimming in the water although lots of other people were swimming in the quarry .

Decided to visit here as another attraction we wanted to visit was closed that day. Car park (free) was easy to find and the walk to the quarry wasn’t too strenuous, maybe 1.5 miles. The quarry itself is stunning. We also walked around the top to get a better view, it’s a bit of a hike but worth it.

Beautiful spot, lots of visitors.
A previous review mentioned 'Leeches' as a reason not to swim..!
I saw absolutely no sign of any leeches(!), however the grass around the quarry had plenty of normal black slugs (finger length) going about their own business, as it was a wet day - I can only imagine that the previous reviewer has mis-identified these as leeches! None in the water.
It was lovely to swim in, not overly cold as doesn't get that deep (only a few feet out of your depth), but be cautious of bashing your legs against under water rocks, of which there are plenty!

This is such a beautiful place to go to. It has an easy walk up to it although it is slightly uneven. We go here often and always enjoy our visit. There isn't much to do unless you like walking but there are gorgeous views to take advantage of. While we're here we love to walk up the nearby torrs and take pictures of the landscapes. If you go on the right day you can get some great shots of the sunset.

An easy flat walk into the quarry. It was a sunny day and we had our lunch here. my husband even went for a swim but it was very cold. we then carried on and did a circular walk of about 5 miles.

Teaming with leeches. It’s a very beautiful place but we had intended to swim but seeing loads of leeches put us off going in!

Easily accessible but not signposted shortly after Dartmoor prison (turn left towards Tavistock). Leave the car at the parking spot by the hut on the right hand side of the road and follow the rocky path on the other side of the road.
