One of the loveliest drives in Scotland.

Whenever we are in this glorious part of Scotland, a drive along Glen Lyon is a “must”. It is a single track road but there are plenty of passing places and it is an easy drive. When you get to Bridge of Balgie there is a sign advising that there is no through road in 10 miles time. That is true, but I encourage you to drive those extra 10 miles to get a real feel of the peace and beauty that abounds in this lovely Glen. You know when you get to the end of the road when you find a huge dam wall in front of you!

When you get back to Bridge of Balgie you can either retrace your steps back to Kenmore or, as we usually do, cross the river and take the mountain road up past Ben Lawers and down to the shore of Loch Tay where you can turn left for Kenmore or right for Killin.

In my view, this is one of the loveliest drives in Scotland - and that is really saying something!

Beautiful walks.

The area of Glen Lyon is quite large with plenty of really good walks, the Glen it’s self if a beautiful place to be, can get a bit busy with regards to parking so get there a little earlier or find a secluded spot by the river and just wild camp, always be respectful of the Glen and leave your spot like you were never there.

Drove through Glen Lyon from the Ben Lawers road today, one of the most beautiful journeys. Can highly recommend the Glen Lyon shop, post office and cafe. Lovely food in a beautiful place with excellent service including excellent toilet

A visit to this Glen is to treasure-my Spouse drove her Q7 Audi-last week-not a problem on the adequate road-the day was sunny/warm-this is a special place-take quality Binoculars and enjoy the round journey-back thro Loch Tummul and the best view point -Scotland at its best

Wonderful part of Scotland

Almost hesitate to write about Glen Lyon it’s so unspoilt and beautiful. The single track road tests your driving skills as locals seem to drive at one speed only. The views are excellent, their are apparently red squirrels although I never saw them. The access to the little Roman Bridge is locked off illegally I think. The walk up to the Praying Hands rock is steep but so worth it.

Off the beaten path - but well worth it!

Might be off the beaten path, but taken in after seeing the Fortingall Yew it's well worth the drive. Hardly anybody here (early November) roads empty - scenery so easy on the eye - watch out for red squirrels! If you have time there seems to be a fair amount of hill (mountain?) walks. Just take care not to leave the road as you look at the scenery!

Après avoir visité le splendide château de Blair Castle (compter 3 à 4 heures de visite), quoi de mieux pour se reposer qu'un magnifique circuit en voiture pour découvrir le Glen Lyon ?
Le circuit Blair Atholl - arrêt à Queen's View (B8019) - Tummel Bridge - Fortingall - Bridge of Balgie - Giorra Dam - retour à Bridge of Balgie - Ben Lawers Dam - Lawers - Weem (restaurant Ailean Chraggan) vous prendra un minimum de 3 heures. Majorez ce temps si vous souhaitez vous arrêter plus souvent.
Je recommande cette promenade par beau temps pour apprécier les paysages et la montagne.
Avant d'arriver dans le Glen Lyon, sur la B8019 qui mène à Tummel Bridge, arrêtez-vous à Queen's View qui, après une promenade de 150 mètres (aménagements pour les fauteuils roulants), vous amènera à un magnifique point de vue.
Au début du Glen Lyon, le vallon est très boisé et la route chemine le long de la rivière Lyon. Au pont de Balgie, je vous incite à continuer jusqu'au barrage. Le paysage change alors radicalement, devient plus sauvage. La route est longue jusqu'au barrage (11 miles) mais elle est superbe. C'est une impasse et vous devrez ensuite revenir sur vos pas jusqu'au Bridge of Balgie. Là, franchissez le pont et suivez la route, plus étroite que jamais, jusqu'au barrage d'altitude Lawers. La route redescend ensuite et rejoint la A827 qui longe le Loch Tay. Vous pouvez terminer ce beau périple au restaurant "Ailean Chraggan" à Weem près d'Aberfeldy où vous vous régalerez de spécialités écossaises comme le Cullen Skink et le gibier (venison).

La route en voiture qui serpente dans Glen Lyon offre des paysages très jolies de cette vallée. On longe la river Lyon et les collines, balade très agréable.

A beautiful drive full of waterfalls, gurgling river and amazing backdrops all g;lorified by the autumnal coat provided by trees in various colours. Tip is stop at the post office tea room.....
