When we visited there we went to the Castle. It was a terrific tour and beautiful part of the country. They give a really nice tour so you should not be disappointed. I recommend the Castle.

Parking is free there. I do not know about overnight. It is a good size lot.

Thanks for getting in touch and great to hear you're planning your trip already - the train journey to Kyle is one of the most scenic in Scotland so I'm sure you'll enjoy the views! You're right that there are buses to take you from Kyle of Lochalsh to Portree - both Citylink and Stagecoach operate services from Kyle of Lochalsh, with Citylink running direct to Portree whilst using Stagecoach would require a change in Broadford. As timetables do change at various times in the year, I'd recommend you look at Travel Line Scotland's website which offers free information on Public Transport including a journey planner tool. With Citylink buses you can buy your tickets from the driver, or if you prefer to book ahead you can do this online, over the telephone or from our Information Centres across the country. Stagecoach tickets are purchased from the driver - and with both companies the driver will give change so you don't have to have the exact fare. As you're travelling by public transport, it is worth mentioning that although Stagecoach operate local bus services on the island, I would highly recommend planning your travel well in advance as some of the more popular locations are challenging to reach by public transport. Organised tours can be a way around this but again during the summer they are very popular so booking ahead is worthwhile. With regard to alternative methods of getting to Portree, you could get a Taxi although this would be significantly more expensive than travel by bus - you could consider booking on to a tour of the island departing from Kyle if you were interested. Several companies will meet you form the first train to arrive in Kyle in the morning and do a tour around the island so might be able to accommodate your luggage and drop you in Portree at the end of the trip. I will send you a direct message with the contact details of the four companies in Portree who offer a car hire service - it is also worth mentioning that there are companies in Inverness (including some of the larger international companies) as well as Fort William. Whilst it would mean driving a leg of your journey rather than taking the bus (it is around 3 hours driving time each way), it does give you the flexibility to stop off en route - Eilean Donan Castle is always popular as are the villages on Loch Ness, although whether you're on the bus or driving the scenery along the whole route is stunning!
