Sadly, this midtown treasure no longer exists. Gentrification destroyed it when the former building owner sold the building with no warning to the bar owners, who had done a great job of keeping the place as Wanda would have wanted.
Heard some sort of non local or franchised chain place is going into the old location once the new owners raised the rent and destroyed this iconic dive bar. Less and less worth visiting Memphis for things found only in the 901.

I love P&H Cafe

I frequent this place. They have great food, pool tables, darts and karaoke/live bands. They do not have a liquor license, so it's bring your own bottle.

An absolute classic dive bar I visit and indulge every time I am in Memphis. Ernestine and Hazel's downtown is great, yes, and there are other wonderful dive bars in Memphis--God bless each and everyone damn one of them and may the God of your choice preserve their very existence but for me this one is the most sincere, authentic and genuine. I spent two hours there early one evening last year waiting for a band to go on across the street at Minglewood Hall (a really a great and professionally run venue by the way) and I couldn't have been happier. Friendly barkeep, friendly patrons. If only I had this where I live, Memphians are lucky people indeed to have this fine establishment.

The P&H Cafe is a storied old bar in mid-town Memphis. It was once owned by Miss Wanda, a classic Steel Magnolia, who was fond of wide-brimmed hats and long dresses who always sat at the end of the bar. These days I enjoy it for it's comedy and open mic nights. You never know what you'll hear. On Monday night I heard a Japanese tourist wearing traditional Japanese dress sing Japanese songs.
