Theatre Clywd Visit

Having only relocated to North Wales, this was our 1st visit the Theatre Clywd. I have to say, we were very impressed. The interior proportions were unexpectedly impressive. A huge stage permitted a West End style show performance and Joe Absolem was terrific in show- Shawshank Redemption . Very comfortable seats. Due to the graduation of seating I believe you'd have an excellent view wherever you were to sit.

Great production

We have been regular visitors to the theatre for many years and have seen it through ups and downs. Last night’s performance was excellent, we saw Shawshank Redemption and we enjoyed every part of it. However the chaos beforehand was not impressive. Trying to get a drink was impossible as the temporary bar cannot cope with the amount of people.

Great performances but get the bar area organised.

Have seen several performances at Theatr Clwyd and have no issue with the quality of them. The theatre is undergoing some renovation work at present and this does affect the enjoyment of the experience. The auditorium is very cold and so you need to dress accordingly. At a recent performance of The Shawshank Redemption, a lot of the audience sat through the performance in coats.
The major issue is the bar area. You can pre-order drinks on the app but don't bather. It actually takes longer to get your drinks than joining the queue. The bar staff are clueless and with no designated area to collect pre-ordered drinks it was just chaos. I have not experienced such a poorly organised bar as this anywhere else.
One can but hope that this is a temporary problem and once the renovations are complete things will improve, but I'm not holding my breath.

Great Play worth seeing - For the Venue dress warmly.

The Shawshank Redemption play is a must to see, great acting by all, and a great scene set.
Only downside was the Tired venue which had no heating on, and most of the audience had winter coats on, and some even had brought blankets remarking they had been on Sunday and knew tonight would be cold.

Robin Hood Rock n Roll Panto

For us this is our favourite production of the year and we are never disappointed. Being a member I get priority booking for events at this Theatre. I had booked for Robin Hood nearly 12 months before and got my choice of seats at a very competitive price. The production was hilarious with great acting, singing and some very funny jokes. What always impresses me is the fact that the performers not only act but are each competent in playing several different instruments. The seating is reasonably comfortable and you get a great view of the stage wherever you sit. The volunteers are always friendly and helpful. Theatre Clwyd is currently having a massive refurbishment but even so it doesn't detract from going and seeing productions. After 5pm the parking is free. I have allready booked for next year's Rock and Roll Panto of Sleeping Beauty!

Brilliant pantomime...hilarious from start to finish! We booked early and got good seats near the front and had a fab evening. Fantastically talented performers, combining great music, impressive singing and spontaneous funny lines.

The Rock n Roll Panto never fails to delight. The gags this year were particularly good. All the cast are fabulous. Little John and this years villain were just brilliant, but all the characters delivered. Music fabulous voices strong never miss. Been attending for many years.

The only thing this year 2022 I have never been to a matinée Row A performance and wont again due to all the unbelievable amount of ignorant people getting up during the performance to take their children to the toilet and to get coffees!! It spoilt it to be honest and the same people did it again during the second half really!!

Painful seating

Went to watch Offa’s Dyke in the mix part of Theatre Clwyd, show was okay, wasn’t sure what it was going to be. Some funny parts, some poor singing, but, and it is the biggest issue is the seating, the plastic chairs are very uncomfortable with a very thin cushion on. All our party were complaining, show was split into 2 parts each around 55 minutes. We couldn’t get out of there quick enough. The seating really spoilt the experience.

The Famous Five

Despite all the building work which is going on this is still our favourite theatre to visit. On this occasion we went to see the new musical The Famous Five directed by Tamara Harvey. The acting and singing, from what is mainly a young cast, was very good and we enjoyed being taken back to stories that we had read as children! It was lovely to see The Anthony Hopkins Theatre nearly full. The seats are fairly comfortable and arranged so that you get a good view of the stage from wherever you sit. There is loads of free car parking after 5pm. They have also introduced a shuttle service for anybody who finds the walk up to the new entrance challenging. We had a very good experience and look forward to our next visit in a couple of weeks.

Celebrated Virgins and The Crucible

I would have given this a 3.5 if I could. I had booked our tckets online and I find the website very easy to use and the prices very good value. We saw both these events in the evening - there is plenty of free parking. Both productions were very well acted and enjoyable in their own way. Theatr Clwyd is undergoing a major refurbishment and these plays were both being performed in The Mix. Although there are very thin pads on the seats it is most uncomfortable if the act lasts longer than 50 minutes. The seating is also very close together. In future I will only be booking for events in The Anthony Hopkins Theatre which is a lovely environment. The staff are lovely, friendly and helpful.
