Old bridge , cost 80p to cross, good photo opportunities. Bridge entrance is not so obvious and can be missed easily. If you are around Brithdir , do visit it.

Why charge foot traffic

Found it weird that they charge for foot traffic. What damage can we do on foot? Vehicles tearing over 30 miles an hour probably do damage it quite a bit but get off for 80p. Seems a bit miserly to man this outpost and charge walkers. Is this volunteer run? What's the point anyway?

Fine views and access to nature.

This is a wonderful spot to start a walk or cycle ride. There is a route all along the side of the estuary from Dolgellau to Barmouth. Fantastic views without any hills to climb. It is also a reasonable spot for bird watching by the bridge, with some mud exposed at low tide. Larger numbers of the ducks and wading birds can also be found about a mile towards the sea. The old railway line, which is now the footpath and cycle route runs along the south side. Also worth exploring the other (north) side of the bridge - there are pretty walks from Bontddu village to waterfalls, the first is visible from the old road bridge. The Penmaenpool toll bridge is now on winter opening hours... closing at 17.30. There are basic facilities here - toilets, which stay open in winter months.

Would you drive over it?

An interesting old bridge but would you drive over it? A lot of people do as it is a short cut to Barmouth. It lies in the beautifully Mawddach Valley and, as interesting as it looks during the day, in the evening it looks really beautiful.

Penmaenpool bridge is a grade 2 listed wooden toll bridge. It’s is open between 8.30 & 18.30 daily, and costs 80p for a car. Well worth a trip if you in the area.

A really interesting wooden bridge

This is a really interesting wooden bridge in a beautiful setting. As interesting as it looks during the day, it looks really stunning when the sun is setting. There is even a good view of it from the terrace at the George III Hotel (a vey good place for a drink and/or a meal).

Fully equipped cottage in a fantastic location, would highly recommend if you want a quiet holiday. Stunning scenery. The owners are really friendly and helpful. We will definitely be booking again.

Interesting timber toll bridge in a wonderful setting. What else can you visit for the princely sum of 30p! There is also a holiday cottage on the end available for rent although will cost a bit more.
