Well kept old gaol that tells the story of how it was to be locked up in the 1800s. The exhibition (the dolls) is quite old and could have been upgraded a bit.

Visited the gaol on Thursday last week, must say it was one of the best tourist attractions we have ever been to. There was an introductory chat with the governor Roger before you set out on the tour. We were lucky that Roger found us and spent a good 30 mins showing us the way around ,explaining in detail all the interesting points relevant to the history of the gaol..He is passionate about the gaol and his knowledge is unbelievable. This is a must visit in Beaumaris.Excellent value .Do not miss this brilliant experience.

Really interesting little place. The staff working there were really helpful. I paid to see the courthouse too and after a while of trying to find it within the gaol I was informed it was an 8 minute walk down the road.
That was actually a nice surprise and meant we had to walk into town where we could find the castle too.
Lovely little.museum. well worth the money and I enjoyed myself immensely.

The gaol is fascinating.and hauntingly eerie.The lady and young man on duty today were the nicest people we have come across.
Mum couldn't climb the stairs so they looked after her downstairs after we had explored and I had attempted to lock her in a cell. Mum said it was the nicest cup of tea she's had in ages.
Well worth the entrance fee. I bought a joint ticket to see the court room.too Also worth a visit, possibly first to understand how some of the inmates came to be in the gaol.

Sicuramente una bella esperienza da fare, visto che una prigione non si visita tutti i giorni.
Merita sicuramente la visita, ma le è stato tolta totalmente tutta la durezza, visto che è ben pitturata, curata e sembra quasi un hotel.

Wasn’t entirely sure what to expect or whether the gaol would be suitable for our two children, aged 6 and 3. However, we all left thinking it was brilliant!
For most of our visit we had our own guide (and prison officer), Mike. Mike was truly brilliant with our children and brought the gaol experience to life for them - they experienced wearing handcuffs and got to be a guard on watch at night, waiting for the cell bell to ring.
Would definitely recommend it to other families.

Great way to spend a couple of hours in Beaumaris as a family and very reasonable for an attraction these days.
Roger the prison governor was excellent in his role and really brought the experience to life with a talk at the start of the self guided tour. Lots of information and photos around the gaol on wall plaques.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, from the young man at the front desk to Roger who was the star of the show!

Fantastic visit today with Roger giving an excellent tour. Really interesting visit where we learned a great deal about the Victorian prison system.

We visited during the week, think it was £5 per adult with a reduced fee for OAPs. You are expected to wear a face covering, they are available to buy if you forget.

Sorry. I don't know the opening times but as it very close to the town centre it is worth checking as I thought it is a great attraction.

Hoping to visit Beaumaris Gaol today Sun. 20/10. Please advise if is near the castle as we know the most suitable car park there for us. If not,,please advise. Disabled bays preferred. Thanks

There is a large car park on the see front right next to the castle. The court and gaol are within a few minutes walk from the castle. Enjoy.

Not sure what the question was but, if it was about the availability of paying to see the gaol or courthouse with a card, we are now able to accept all cards including contactless so the availability of a cash machine is not a problem. For info anyway, there are two in Beaumaris ; one outside Jolly’s Tea Shop and one inside the Spa shop, both on Castle Street.

Is this worth a visit with young children? My boys are aged 4 & 6 and always ask what’s inside when we walk past so I’m considering a visit but not sure it’s worth the money as they are young they won’t be interested in reading any signs just looking at things.
