I particularly enjoyed the displays and pictures relating to the Welsh Women's Peace Petition of 1923, which I had never heard of before. The museum has its own collection but also works for sale. Definitely worth a visit. Friendly staff. I think we might have spent 40 minutes there.
Like so many towns in the UK, Machynlleth is partly trendy cafés and partly run down, but is trying hard. There is a large car park in the centre of town though we had to circle back to find it. The parking machine switches to Welsh partway through paying, even if you have selected English. The meters in Hay do this, too, so my Welsh knowledge has improved a bit....

We wanted to stock up on Welsh cheese and butter to take back to England so went to the Wednesday market. What a total disappointment. One good veg stall, the rest were all the usual crap as in the UK. Not worth the visit only to charge your car at an eye-watering - £.80 per kWh !!! Don’t waste your time.

Nice little gallery to spend an hour or so looking around. The permanent exhibits are well presented and high quality and the temporary exhibits, whilst a little mixed, are well curated.

I've visited twice since the gallery re-opened, with two friends who came to stay with me nearby in Tywyn. Both have a professional interest in the arts, one linked to regional tourism, the other an interior designer. The Gallery has only recently re-opened for the first time in 18 months. They are taking things very cautiously, which is something I welcome. You need to book in advance and they are really limiting numbers, which is very sensible under the circumstances.
However, on both my visits others who booked in the same time slots didn't show. This was fine for us, as we had a private view. But not so good for the volunteers who turned up for so few visitors or people who would have liked to visit but were unable to. It is free to enter, so no shows are likely to be a problem. I didn't get any reminder, either couple of days in advance or on the day, with clear advice about how to cancel if you no longer plan to use the ticket.
On to our 'private view' of the exhibition! The gallery takes a fine art approach and the first room upstairs shows the work of Natalie Chapman. Its good to see artists early in their career being supported and having their own exibitions. The paintings were not to my personal taste, although I did like the prints. The next two rooms upstairs are spotlighting women's art in Wales. This is quite a loose theme and sometimes difficult to take a coherent idea from. There are things around landscape and the sea that recurred in several works; and themes around family and the home. The work was not overcrowded, allowing the smaller works room to breath.
The final room showed work from the permanent collection by women artists. Again the work was well presented, allowing the smaller prints and drawings plenty of space.
There is a small shop at the end selling art books, cards and postcards, and some of the artworks are for sale. This is a fine art/ art school gallery. What it isn;t doing is providing space for semi-professional artists and illunstrators to show their work and sell it. There were some commercial galleries in Mach. that filled that space, but they don't seem to have survived the recent public health situation. On a practical note the toilets in the gallery are available for visitors to use, there are several places within five minutes walk to get a coffee/tea/cake. The gallery is only two minutes walk from the train station and main bus stops by the clock.
While you are looking at the art don't forget to look at the wonderful building! My friend who is an interior designer loved the space, especially the last room which is showing the permanent collection. Its a really good example of creative re-use.

Although we only live an hour away we had never before visited MOMA but we were delighted with the whole experience. An amazing gallery which was a delight to explore with varied art exhibitions and a very peaceful atmosphere.
We had a light lunch in the cafe and that was wonderful value for money, the food was fresh, beautifully presented and we had only a short wait for it to arrive.

Fabulous arts centre - always something of interest to see. Regularly change their exhibitions. Lovely building sympathetically enlarged in recent years.

The gallery hosts an array of wonderful exhibits which change frequently . The concert hall is in the original chapel , it is very atmospheric and the acoustics are amazing . The programme is varied with something to suit all tastes from local young musicians to world class performers .

Machnylleth MOMA was a half-way stop for us as we travelled from North down to Mid-Wales. Small but relatively interesting with a photo exhibition of Apollo 11 (this was in early July 2019), and works by local artists and school children. Some of the pieces were for sale.
There is a little courtyard and a cafe (not open when we were there). Parking is available in the open space area in town.

MOMA is a bit tricky to find initially and is larger than it initially appears to be. There is a little cafe where I had the best coffee I'd had in Wales - and at a very reasonable price. There are several rooms with a variety of exhibits and a small book shop. There was an exhibition of local artists in most of the galleries and the standard was very high - well worth seeking out.
