Queenscliff Fort is located at the top end of town and a pleasant stroll of just over one km from the ferry terminal. It is best to ensure a place by booking online and checking on the requirements. We saw one young woman turned away as she was an international visitor and hadn't bought her passport. This was despite being with her parents who were both able to produce their ID. Once the tour group enters the site the gates are locked. The tour takes approximately 1.5 hours. Our tour ran overtime, however, there was an option to leave. There are no toilets onsite, however, there are public toilets on the coastal walk-path only two minutes from the entrance. The tour covers the history of the site with some interesting anecdotes. Most of the guns have been removed, however, there are a few examples to represent what was previously there. There are stairs and underground sections on the tour. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, however, left much to be desired in his manner. Our introduction was an abrupt list of things we couldn't do and a warning about hazards. He made each visitor verbally acknowledge each hazard as he listed them because, apparently, there is no insurance on this government site. While the guide tried to create interest by asking questions, his response to incorrect answers with "No, you're wrong" was discouraging of audience participation. Other reviews suggest there are some wonderful tour guides.

An awesome guided experience of the Fort Queenscliff historic site, one of the largest and best preserved forts and military installations of its kind. Steve our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining. The experience lasts about 90 minutes and gives you a full appreciation of rhe working history of the Fort, the local town and the military personal who manned the post. The perfect spot for amazing photos of Queenscliff and surrounds. A must see experience.

Our group ranged in age from over 80 to under 10 and we all enjoyed it! We loved our tour guide Mary, she was so friendly and down to earth and very likeable. Everything she had to say was some fascinating fact about the history of Fort Queensland and the various wars it was involved in.
Made us all want to go out and learn more. It was very interesting and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Want to do it again in a year or two. Hope Mary will be our guide next time too! Thanks Mary :)

Great way to downs a couple of hours and learn from experienced guides the history of the Fort at Queenscliff. When, why and how it was built. Learning that the main high street of Queenscliff was enclosed behind the fort walls. To learn and take on board so much information in such a short length of time is a credit to the guides at Fort Queenscliff. Well worths visit.

My wife and i visited the Fort Queenscliff, where we were greeted by our tour guide, Merle. She was a superb guide, taking us right round the fort, explaining so much about the history and functions of the fort, without saturating us with too many statistics! We thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and would recommend it to everyone. After the tour, Merle very kindly drove my wife and me back to the Queenscliff- Sorrento ferry terminal. Thank you, Merle!

What a fantastic experience, our guide was so full of knowledge and we all walked out learning something new. From getting to see the only Black lighthouse in the southern hemisphere, to seeing around the base was just fantastic. Seeing the original Queenscliff main street was pretty cool too!!
I highly recommend especially from ages of 7 and up will gain alot of information

Information provided by tour guide Mary was informative and detail that our young children 11 and 6 years could take in with great interest.
Tour length about right.
Overall a good experience and value for money
Everyone who visits should buy the book Murder At The Fort. Available in the gift shop. Well researched, well written and fascinating perspective of events that happened in early WW2

Hi, I am unable to visit on a weekend where tours are conducted. Is it still worth a visit since many of the buildings are out of bounds to the public?
I have a 6 yo who is into military stuff. Are there any hands on or interactive displays for kids?

Good morning , I do apologise for not getting back sooner. Yes there is a 1pm tour each day of the week. They are run by Queenscliff Historical Tours nothing to do with the tours that are run by Fort Queenscliff. Its a pity you are unable to visit the Fort on the weekends as there are interactive displays for children in our museum and they can also dress up which they love. Your child can still see all the outside guns and they get to go into underground magazines. I do hope you come and visit.
