The art and architecture at the Kimball is amazing. The collection is small enough so one can see every exhibit without getting museum fatigue. The exhibits are of exceptional quality. Some of the greatest artists are represented: Michelangelo, Donatello, Caravaggio, Cezanne, JMW Turner, Joan Miro, Henri Matisse, Claude Monet, Edward Munch, Peter Paul Rubens and more. Fantastic!
The two buildings are incredible. The original building was designed by Louis Kahn. The second building by Renzo Piano. The buildings alone are worth a visit.

Wonderful yet compact museum. May be the best art museum in the southwest. Has quality pieces from every period.

Spending the day at the Kimbell Art Museum was a great choice. The artwork was diverse and I was pleasantly surprised by some of the exhibits. An added bonus was being able to watch as groups of art students, sitting in various rooms, sketching their assigned statue as the professor walked back and forth among them. It was fun observing their progress. Some were quite good. There is a nice gift shop and a cafe.

The Kimbell Museum is notable for both its arched design by famous architect Louis
Kahn as well as its high quality of mostly European paintings from the Renaissance to Impressionism and Picasso. There are paintings by Goya, Velazquez, Caravaggio, Monet and Michelangelo’s first painting, as well as some ancient sculptures from Greece, Egypt and Assyria. It’s a very small collection with only about a hundred works on display. There is a companion pavilion building with special exhibitions, but they were between exhibits when I visited and the permanent collection did not take long to see. I liked that every piece had a multi-paragraph explanatory card, and it’s a rare free museum, too.

This is a fantastic museum. The architecture is wonderful. The sculptures date back to 1,000 B.C. They have a fantastic art collection. My favorite is the renaissance period. It was absolutely breath taking. I loved how art students were sitting in their chairs making sketches of sculptures. That just added to the validity of the pieces as someone who is art illiterate. The museum is well organized and made it easy to follow. I spent 2 hours there and I could have been there longer.

We have been members of the Kimbell for many years and have enjoyed many exhibitions and lectures. The museum consistently meets our high stands for excellence. I highly recommend!

There are not many free things in the world today. Not only was admission to the museum free (barring special exhibits, for which there is admission), but so was parking! Amazing! Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. The art is spectacular, and there is even a decent little restaurant attached. Great way to spend an afternoon.

So we stopped in & really enjoyed the exhibit & especially the stilt dancers & drums! It was fantastic & a must as my father-in-law is an African lit scholar. How fortuitous! We were here for a family wedding & were happy to take in this wonderful experience.

Museum is wonderful and also free admission. Ft Worth had an admirable cultural center with this and other art museums s and galleries. They are all in a small area and free parking is available.

I believe you were at the Amon Carter museum if you were seeing Remington and Russell works. It's next to the Kimbell.

How much time should I expect to spend exploring the entire collection? I am someone who looks at brushstrokes so I take an agonizingly long time.

The Kimbell has four permanent collection galleries spread between two buildings. Since you're a detailed looker, we would recommend 1.5–2 hours to explore the collection. If you choose to use an audio guide during your visit, that will tack on some time to your visit as well. Thanks for your interest, and we hope you enjoy your visit!

That's a guessing game with nearly all museums. First thing on Tuesday or Wednesday, as Andy M. suggests makes sense. But be prepared for crowds no matter what, particularly if the temporary exhibition has significant crowd appeal.

Kimbell is a must. The Nancy Lee n Perry Bass special exhibit in the Renzo Piano Pavilion is phenomenal and free. The Pavilion pays homage to the original Louis Kahn architectural Museum is a gem and parallels can be drawn between both buildings. Yes it will be crowded but patrons should attend when museum opens!
The Bass family has collected an amazing group of works by Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet, Renoir, Bonnard and sculptures which include Rodin.

The museum and audio guide is free for general exhibits. If you go Tuesday you get half price for any special exhibition. Generally crowds are not a problem at the museum when we go on Tuesdays.

Tuesday and Wednesday are great at the Kimbell. Go at 10 am to miss traffic and have the museum to yourself, mostly.
