It is always a great place to visit. I wanted to see the Armand Hammer exhibit with art from Rembrandt to Van Gogh. I would have liked a video discussing the exhibit.

made of three main building blocks that are close to each other, they have a supreme exhibition of 70000+ items! make sure you leave enough time to go through the entire museum, you probably need a whole day there!

Mega museum with something for everyone. Ranks with the major big cty MFAs across the country. Extensive, impressive and FREE on Thursdays, with extended hours. I've been several times so concentrated on what intersts me most; you can easily spend 3+ hours. Clsong soon, the Impressionist exhibition was well worth the upcharge. Some real gems, though as always I could do without Mary Cassatt, lol. Never tire of Cezanne though. While not huge, this was an impressive island of relative solace amidst the genuinely sprawling museum complex (there's 3 main buildings, consult your maps) Free street parking is available with a short wak.

This is a beautiful museum spread across three large buildings. We have a museum membership and enjoy seeing their rotating exhibits. For this visit, we saw an exhibit of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art that featured artists like Cezanne and Van Gogh, and a whimsical interactive exhibit that was in complete contrast to it. This immersive experience began with us being led behind a black curtain into a beautiful, dreamy landscape composed of over 3,000 cascading LED lights changing colors from blue to purple to pink and green. Bean bag chairs on the floor and the dim lighting encouraged people to linger and relax. The title "Pixel Forest and Worry Will Vanish" seemed very appropriate, and it was a great place to take a break from the summer heat. If you want to visit the museum, it has free general admission on Thursdays, and there's paid parking available in the attached parking garage. Don't miss the sculpture garden and cafe across the street. James Turrell's light tunnel is also a favorite. You could easily spend a day here and not see everything this amazing museum has to offer.

If you're into art museums, this one should definitely be on your list. It's organized well and has LOTS of different types for you to see.

We had a wonderful time exploring the museums many different exabits. There were so many different things to look at. The staff followed us like hawks though. it made it very hard to enjoy it when we were being staired at so aggressively. When I would look up at them they were dead strait watching my family. We had small children who were sitting on the benches looking around, We did not allow them to run or touch they were not loud, but it seemed everywhere we went they were following us and watching us even though there were many other people.
besides this we really enjoyed out stay. The café had very good food!

Have gone to exhibits as well as the shorts for the academy awards and just love everything about the museum.
The holiday party for members of a must-and bring the kids!
Went to the Pixolotti exhibit with lights and sound and the kids loved it!
Spend time lying down on the floor and looking around at the show!

We spent a night outside of Houston before a graduation ceremony in College Station and really enjoyed our recent trip to the Museum! Parking in the garage was easy and it linked to the museum complex through indoor passages. The museum was a nice size, and we happened to be there on Thursday, when it was open late and was free —which was much appreciated after the fairly high entrance fee at the Johnson Space Center.
It was nice to see many young people there enjoying the museums, too. The employees were all very friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend a visit here! We also visited the contemporary art building.
I like to visit museums whenever I travel and this was really nice.

Less than 2 miles towards downtown (other side of I-69) is an area referred to as “Lower Montrose”, near the University of Saint Thomas and Rothko Chapel. You will find lots of vintage stores, artsy stores and unusual restaurants. This is a unique area unlike what’s found in most Texas cities.

My husband is a patient at MD Anderson. Does the museum have wheelchairs available or must we bring our own? Also, generally is the museum easily accessible? Are private tours available for people with some walking limitations? TIA

I would say that the museum in general is very accessible. I don’t know if they have wheelchairs, but it wouldn’t surprise me. I’m not sure how close you’ll be able to park, though ..

Adults are $15, seniors $10, teens 13-18, $7.50 and children 12 and under free. Parking is an additional fee of $3 or so.
Bank of America card holders can obtain one free admission ticket.
The sculpture garden across from the Law building is free.

If I buy a ticket to get into the Kusama exhibit ($18) do I also need to buy a general admission ticket ($15)?

The exhibition "Sculpted in Steel: Art Deco Automobiles and Motorcycles, 1929-1940" is now closed, but our newest, interactive exhibition "Kusama: At the End of the Universe" opens this Sunday, June 12!
We also have the very beautiful exhibition "High Society: The Portraits of Franz X. Winterhalter" on view now, too. We hope you stop by this summer!
