Hats off to the community leadership, businesses and invested residents who’ve help preserve the best of the past and repurpose so much of this community to create an inviting, quaint and welcoming old-school downtown. The downtown square is certainly the centerpiece of this cultural gem — but the charm seems to go on for several blocks in each direction. If you love older homes that have been restored and preserved — you’ll want to slowly drive up and down the residential areas nearby.

Don't miss walking around the Historic downtown area. It is well maintained, clean and has ample parking. There are lots of nice restaurants to choose from. We felt very safe walking around after dark.

The historic square in McKinney is the hub of activity especially around Christmas , 4th of July, and pretty much every other holiday. Many fine local shops, several wine tasting places, a couple of bars and several restaurants make this a great place to visit and eat and or have a drink.

If you are out for a day or weekend definitely a place to check - antique shops - boutiques - sport store - ice cream - food - etc - most places offer live music on the weekends - plenty to do for everyone - ate at five different restaurants (all different types of food)

Really a fun place, with array of different shops. Everyone is warm and friendly. Restaurants, clothing, boots, hats, ice cream, chocolates...you name it. It was great!

McKinney is a fast growing suburban area north of Dallas. It is lovely to walk around and is filled with wonderful shops, restaurants and a park. I wish every old town would develop their downtown area even half as nicely as McKinney has done. If you are in the area, this is truly a hidden gem!

In this big developing suburb, it's nice to see that part of the traditional old downtown has been preserved and is thriving.

This little downtown area is as good as it gets. Aside from the lovely shops and friendly shopkeepers, they frequently have events to bring in business and raise funds for nonprofit organizations. This is a model for every city everywhere.

There are several free parking lots surrounding the downtown square. Now depending on what time you plan to meet friends; will depend on where you park. The closer lots fill up first. I would post a link, but it is against the guidelines, but I can tell you to google search "downtown mckinney parking," and it will take you right to where you need to look! I hope you enjoy your visit, it really is a great place to shop and grab a bite to eat!

If you want to be downtown on The Square, The Grand is where you want to stay. It's right on top of Rick' s Chop House and that is right on The Square. Plenty restaurants and antique shops within walking distance.

As a previous shop owner I can tell you most all the retail stores close at 5pm but rarely turn away a shopper wanting in at 5:03 and will gladly stay late. So if you are looking to do some retail shopping I would plan on getting to the square early grab a quick lunch and having a nice meal after shopping. The restaurants serve food 'til 9pm and hours vary on the season and weekends. Don't forget the side streets there are plenty of hidden gems to shop at 'off the square proper.
