This museum is located in the centre of Brilon on the centre square. It houses a nice permanent exhibition on the history of this part of Sauerland and the city of Brilon with its oldest town hall of Germany (1220) and apart from that it also organizes special temporary exhibitions. After our dinner in Hotel Starke on the opposite side of the street we happened to bump into the opening night of an art exhibition by 2 artists from Berlin who had their art exhibited in the museum. The exhibition was called "Gegenwartskunst von Johanna Staniczek und Manfred Miersch" and both of them were present when the exhibition opened. There were obviously many people from Brilon but we as tourists were also allowed to attend this opening. The artists were welcomed and got a nice speech from a local art expert and Manfred Miersch also gave a performance on a very early synthesizer. Not sure that all the people liked it but it fitted to their art in a certain way. Most of the rooms in the museum were filled with the contemporary art which is a big contrast with the normal exhibits that can be seen here. But that is the attraction of this temporary exhibition which lasts until the end of November. After that the regular items will return to their normal place again.
