We drove from Port A to the park, hoping to spot some Whooping Cranes. Drove slowly around, and even tried The Big Tree area, but had no luck.
We checked out the R,V camping area and liked it. Next time we may camp there so we can search early in the day

On 3rd day of 5 day stay we had new neighbors come in that were the most abrasive people we have ever dealt with. Screaming at top of their lungs from 430 in morning until we’ll after quiet time. They also had 3 dogs ( we have 1) that barked all day and night at everything and nothing. The couple would get in screaming matches calling each other names and using F- bombs all time. Camp hosts were told and were only 2 sites down from them and did nothing. Never had this issue anywhere before and no one in charge handling it. Us and other neighbors all complained but nothing happened. Will have to think long and hard before ever staying there again.

The pier stretches out over a very shallow bay. We rented a kayak fro ma self- serve kiosk and had fun paddling around the shallow water. The fishing was pretty slow for us, but the scenery was spectacular.

We just visited for the afternoon and really enjoyed strolling around checking out the campground and pier. We also visited the "Big Tree" as well but found it a little underwhelming compared to some of the live oaks in Georgia. Also was hoping to see some whooping cranes but struck out as it was very windy today. Still worth the visit as it is such a nice area, I would like to come back and camp here.

Even though it was a cold and windy day, we enjoyed birding! The Big Tree, over 1,000 years old, was awe inspiring. Able to see and hear Whooping Cranes in fields right before the Tree!

The wooded campground is very private with trees and bushes hiding other campers! Great to be 10 minutes from town and shopping and restaurants!

Best park for a nice quiet camping trip! Dark at night so you can see the stars. Sunsets on the boardwalk are amazing. Bike riding in and out of the park are recommended! Bring your kayak or paddle board, oh and a fishing pole if you love pier fishing! So much to do here! Great places to eat in nearby Rockport-Fulton.

Fishing for 24 hours was wonderful. BIg tree is certainly worth a look. Watch out for fire ants.
Beach camping is great with shelters 50 feet from water. Great food at Paradise Key bar and grill in Rockport. Goose Island state park is closest park to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Winter home of whooping cranes.

What a beautiful park. Go visit the Big Tree. Fishing on the pier was so fun. Didn't catch a whopper but some did. We caught a bunch of baby fish, still fun. And everyone was friendly.

Having been an admirer of Whooping Cranes since I was a child and my mother tracked their numbers, I especially enjoy seeing them at Goose Island. What a gracious bird! We also enjoy the availability of fresh seafood, the beautiful state park and many other available sightseeing adventures. Area is not overly crowded as many today. Great opportunities to see many birds in many locations.

How far is the walking distance from parking lot to camping spot in the wooded area? For eg campground 215. Thanks.

So the question is “which parking lot”?
There are parking lots in the wooded camping area. I don’t think any of the sites are more than 400 meters from a parking lot. The tent sites are less than 100 meters.

Newspaper said Park was set to re-open this week. It has been closed due to Harvey. We walked in.

Question about low tree limbs specifically over the entry roads to Goose Island State Park.
We camped at Goose Island State Park back in the 90s, and had to dodge low tree limbs getting in and out of the park in our motorhome back then. With the passage of time, low trees are apparently even more of a problem, as corroborated by at least one recent (Feb 2017) Trip Advisor review in which the people involved hit a low limb with their fifth wheel camper, damaging it substantially, and forcing them to leave it in Rockport for repairs, while they returned to their home in Georgia without it. This points to a totally unacceptable situation that should be dealt with by whomever is responsible for doing so.
This not a trivial issue. Goose Island State Park is a desirable campground, and although the oak trees there conbribute to ambience, the roadways in and out of the park should be accessible to all types of RVs, not just very small ones. Why isn't this issue addressed by whoever should be taking care of these kinds of problems?
We are unwilling to return to Goose Island State Park in our motorhome until we can get in and out of the park without risking expensive damage to our RV.

It's still a bit low and narrow getting into the park and makes one a bit nervous. My motor home is about 11 foot high and the height doesn't seem to be a problem but we have been scraped by some of the bushes on the side.

Not in the park. There are rentals in town of Fulton/Rockport with plenty of places to use them from right where you rent them.

No unusual bug issues here. Always a good idea to have some mosquito repellant when camping. But no swamping mosquitoes or anything like that. Several camp and RV sites have good wifi. Good enough to stream Netflix. But. Hopefully. U won't have time for that. Enjoy the paradise of the bays.

Absolutely! And highly recommended. Call the office for dry camping rules. RVers are everywhere, on beach side, and in the wooded areas. You are allowed to just camp over night without checking in with the front office and paying your fee. There are day spots for picnic areas, fishing, etc. Hope this helped.
