My husband and I came to Brian Head to ski for my birthday and stayed in the lodge the night before. The staff at the lodge, the restaurant, and the ski resort were all very friendly and helpful and we had a great time. There was fresh powder, which was like skiing through butter it was so soft! Some of the best snow I've ever experienced. My ski boot actually broke while I was getting off one of the lifts and the staff were very accommodating and helpful in getting me back down the mountain safely and renting new gear. There's a nice variety of runs and lifts and we just wish we had more time to spend skiing there!

Richard is a great instructor for beginners & advanced beginners young and old (like me at 51). He is very patient and gave us good drills that I'll keep doing on my own. He's admired by all of his much younger coworkers and that says a lot about how personable he is.

Our family had an amazing time at Brian Head Resort. It was our first time skiing so we took lessons. All of the instructors were great! I was fortunate enough to have Richard for an Instructor. He was a wealth of knowledge, really friendly and gave me practical instructions that were easy to follow. Hayley was incredibly patient with our three year old. He had a great time skiing with her. It was a great experience!!

My teenage daughter and I took a group lesson. We had all skied before but it had been a long time. Richard Browning did a fantastic job of getting us back on the skies! He was patient, professional, and friendly. He made a point to learn everyone’s names and make us feel comfortable. Great job Richard!

Lots and lots of snow and powder ski. Amazing! Runs are not too difficult and perfect for intermediate skiers.
Alexus in ski rental shop was just perfect and really went above and beyond to help us.

I haven’t skied since I was 10, so I took a beginner lesson with Richard Browning and had an amazing time. I learned so much and I feel so much more confident!

We have come here 3 years in a row and have had a great experience every time! This year I had an intermediate ski lesson with Richard Browning. I loved his learn by doing approach and he really helped me advance to a higher level of skiing. His style of teaching is easy to understand and I had a great time! I would definitely request a lesson with him again.

Discovered Brian Head in December 2021 and purposely planned our 2023 ski vacation here due to our positive experience. My first time to Brian Head I was expecting to encounter a pretentious ski crowd and to my surprise the crowd and staff were very down-to-earth. Our experience this year was the same and I am committed to making this an annual trip.
Highlights from this trip include a stay at the Brian Head Lodge, ski lesson with Richard, overall convenience.
We arrived a day early to get acclimated to the altitude and familiarize ourselves with the ski resort. I was surprised when they advised I could pick up my ski gear a day early and provided us with our lift tickets and basically all the instruction needed to feel comfortable with where to go in the morning. The whole check in process and ski distribution was under 15 minutes. Brian Head Lodge is conveniently located a short ride from Navajo Lodge (ski resort with the rentals and ski school).
Our check in at Brian Head Lodge was just as fast and we absolutely loved our room. We reserved one of the family suites which had great space and a fireplace. The restaurant/bar was just down the hallway and was nicely appointed with a pool table, fireplace, and great food. Portions are sizeable and great for sharing.
I am an off/on skier that was open to taking a lesson to replace some of the bad habits I picked up over the years. My original lesson was for a group lesson but lucky for me, ended up with a private lesson. I was assigned to Richard who has many years instructing skiers and previously worked at a resort in So California. He tailored the lesson to me and after 2.5 hours I felt much more confident on the snow. I recommend lessons for all levels of skiers as there is always a way to improve. Ski school started timely and was a good return on investment.
Being a California native and having many great resorts a short drive away, the 8 hour drive to Brian Head is worth it. The snow and the people are phenomenal. There are two ski locations Navajo and Giant Steps. I recommend Navajo for beginner/ intermediate skiers and families. Haven't made it to Giant Steps yet but I understand that is where most of the advanced skiing happens. Both are included with the lift ticket.

My boyfriend booked a ski weekend for me and him complete with rentals and lift tickets. Website seemed a bit unclear that our rentals and lessons were actually at the Navajo location and not the Brian Head ski resort area. Not a huge issue since we arrived with tons of time. My boyfriend took a beginner snowboarding lesson with Brylee and said she was an absolute peach. Since he was the only one in the class everything was tailored to him and his beginner status. He told me he ended the lesson feeling like he had learned good fundamentals and basics. I took a ski lesson with Richard while Dwayne shadowed. I haven't skied in 12 years and it was great to have Richard and a small class do a lesson that was very based on fundamentals. It was a great way for me personally to get reintroduced to the sport. Richard and Dwayne were very knowledgeable and helpful, it also didn't hurt that the mountain wasn't super busy. All three instructors were gold star quality!
The only downside of this entire experience was just going from the Brian Head ski resort building to Navajo I wish we would have known that ahead of time.

Hi fellow skiers, I am planning a ski trip to Brian Head end of January, and would appreciate any suggestions for a one bedroom condo there, and how to contact the agency person who is renting it out. Thank you, Donna
I’m going in mid March, about 3 days after snow falls. Are chains required?
Also, how is the drive up the mountain from Las Vegas? How windy are the roads?

Chains or 4 wheel drive if it snows. March and April are known for some quick large spring storms that sneak up fast. Always a great idea to have 4 wheel drive our chains with you at all times when visiting Brian Head during the winter season. The drive from Vegas is beautiful! Heading up the mountain you can check the road conditions on the live cameras through downloading the UDOT app. Winds have never been a problem heading up the mountain road 143 unless it is snowing. Then the snow is more of an issue then the winds. Hope this helps.

I will be driving from Las Vegas in March. all I need is snow chains or snow cables? I don't have to 4 wheel drive? For someone who doesn't ski or snowboard is there a lot for us to do? A bar or lounge or fire pit to have drinks?

Correct! Just chains for your car.
And yes, there’s a bar at the bottom of Giant Steps lift and fire pits at the other lodge by Chair 6. Also, there’s a snow tubing place at the mountain, too. Great for anyone! Enjoy.

Hi, Family of 8 coming from FLORIDA...we will be bringing our 4 older teenage boys up on 12/30/20. None of them have snowboarded/skied.. or even seen snow!! My husband was diagnosed with cancer June '17 and is not able to walk far so we will be spectating. Is there someplace 2 or 3 of us can sit that is out of the weather while our boys snowboard? (all things considered COVID...) we imagine seating may be limited. Is there anything we can do to secure seating? Thank you so much!

For anyone who has driven up from Southern California/Los Angeles area . . . is the drive relatively easy? Freeways the whole time until you exit? I was reading about the 14 mile drive up to Brian Head and wonderin gwhen it says it's steep - are we talking like on the drive to Big Bear Mountain steep or worse? I'd like to know what to expect for the mountain drive. Thank you!

Thanks for your great question. Yes, the drive to Brian Head is super easy - freeway all the way to exit 75 at Parowan, Utah, and then it's just a quick 14 mile drive to Brian Head on SR 143. The road up the canyon only has one short steep pitch near the top of the canyon, and the rest of the drive is a breeze. The State Road Department also does an excellent job of keeping the canyon road clear during winter snow conditions.
Thanks again for your question. We look forward to your visit.

We're planning on coming to Brian Head in April for a ski trip. I had heard that the elevation was high but didn't realize it was higher than Vail and now I'm a bit concerned. My husband and I and our kiddos had planned on driving from Los Angeles straight to Brian Head, but reading about slowly acclimating I'm concerned a bit. And, unforutnately, I have a friend who suffered a high altititude sickness tragedy in her family and that's in the back of my mind. Any insight, experience, would be appreciated. I'm going to talk with our pediatrician, too.

That was our concern too this past Christmas considering I had altitude sickness in Colorado before (attempted to get to the peak within 2 days of arriving to Denver). I was very scared but it went well. Our family of 4, 2 adults and 2 children, are from FL and got to Las Vegas where spent few days and then drove to UT. We visited both Brian Head and Eagle Point (our family liked Eagle Point way better by the way). We didn't stay near the slopes and had to drive about 30-40 minutes each morning - no altitude sickness! First day skiing we felt tired and short in breath a little but it was manageable. Brian Head is closing for a season April 12th this year. I personally wouldn't go there in April, but it's me.

How is the skiing in early December? Is there typically enough snow to have the whole resort open?
Burke W
ไบรอันเฮด, ยูทาห์
Thank you for your great question. Skiing in early December is a bit tricky to predict. Some years we have fantastic early-season snowfall, and other years are sometimes less favorable. So far this year, early-season snowfall has been a bit skimpy, but a significant storm is in the forecast for later this week. I would suggest you continue to follow our website for the latest conditions and plan your trip accordingly. Sorry I don't have a more definitive answer.

Howdy.
i have a few questions regarding websites used.
what website is good for telling you whether roads are closed or not due to weather around brianhead
Also
whats a good website that gives you a good snow forecast and report for brianhead
Thanks in advance
Cheers

Thank you for your questions Clint.
The best website to use for road conditions is the Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) website . For Brian Head weather reports, I like using Weather Underground.
Thanks again for your questions. We hope to see you soon!

Hi there, we are a family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids, 5yrs and 7 yrs) coming to brianhead for 3 days in jan next year
i have a couple of questions
i am coming from page, and i know its weather dependant, but is the drive north of kanab to brianhead a fairly mellow drive? it seems alot quicker than driving past hurricane but i it looks like alot of mountain driving.
also
because my kids will be 5 and 7, does that mean that they cant do lessons together unless we do a private lesson.
thanks
Burke W
ไบรอันเฮด, ยูทาห์
Thank you for your great questions.
Coming from Page, you have a couple of options to get to Brian Head. As you mentioned, driving through Hurricane during the winter months is a bit farther, but you do avoid potential winter road conditions. If weather conditions are favorable (which often times they are), the shortest route is to take Highway 89 to Highway 14 to Cedar City. From Cedar City, take Interstate 15 to exit 75, then it's just a short 15 mile drive to Brian Head.
Due to the age difference in your children, you would need to book a private lesson if you would like them in the same class. Our Tiny Tracks class is for ages 5 and 6, and our Mountain Explorers class is for ages 7 to 12. We have found that the 5 and 6 year old students tend to progress better if they are not grouped with the older students.
Thanks again for your questions. Please feel free to contact us if you need any additional information. We look forward to your visit!
Late season conditions? .... I'm thinking about coming to Brianhead mid April instead of Mammoth in order to save some money, since Brianhead is projected to still be open. I'll be with my 9 year old and don't need all of the runs Mammoth offers; also, Brianhead is larger than than my local resort which will be closed by April 15th, so I think we can appreciate it.
Considering Brianhead is still open, is it worth going, or are we going to be skiing on rocks?
Are many runs still open late season?
I'd spend about half as much as the Mammoth trip, so anything halfway decent will probably sale me on it.
Burke W
ไบรอันเฮด, ยูทาห์
Thanks for your great question!
Yes, we will be open this season until April 21st. We've had an outstanding snow year this season, and more snow is in the forecast. Spring skiing conditions are excellent! We have the highest base elevation of any ski resort in Utah, which provides us with fantastic late-season conditions. All lifts and runs with full snow coverage are expected to be open until closing day.
Thanks again for your great question. We look forward to your visit!
