This was a super fun little stop that we decided to head to on a whim after leaving Bryce and having some daylight hours left to burn. The hike up to the petrified forest is a little strenuous, and I wouldn't attempt it on a super hot day, but it was fun for sure. The petrified wood is beautiful when you get to it. I'm really glad we stopped and spent the hour doing the hike.

This was such an unexpected gem of a visit on our Utah / Arizona national parks tour. We stayed about 30 minutes from this park and almost skipped it but are so glad we didn’t. The petrified wood is beautiful. Be sure to take the Sleeping Rainbow Trail - that’s where most of the petrified wood is located - it was pretty much everywhere. Truly amazing. The hike is moderate; we worked up a pretty good sweat on a cold and windy day.

If you’ve never seen petrified wood, you should take this hike! There’s a printed guide you get at the visitors center that walks you through the hike and explains the amazing things you see. We loved it. It’s a bit strenuous up some elevation. There is so much petrified wood to see!

We stopped at this on our way back to our hotel on a whim. Great hike. Make sure to take water and hike the guided trail that they give you that informs you of each stop along the way. The hike was informative and we saw a lot of petrified wood in the petrified forest. It was hot but luckily we got cloud cover which helped

Enjoyable moderate hike up the hill to see the petrified wood in amongst a forest of short tree’s (they call it a Pygmy forest) on the hilltop. There’s not an abundance of pieces everywhere, but several groupings worth seeing of different looking pieces. Not really any shade, but beautiful views of the lake below. We had a nice breeze from being on the hilltop. Enjoyable way to spend the a few hrs.

Amazing petrified tree chunks all over the place. It takes awhile to hike to them but once you get there there are lots of them. Get the Nature Trail map from the visitor center and follow the trails to the Sleeping Rainbow loop. It's steep, have hiking boots and a hiking pole but it's worth it. The petrified trees are lovely with many sizes and colors. Be sure to visit the garden area by the parking lot they have a big giant petrified tree on display.

This was one of my most favorite hikes in Utah! The trail guide provided interesting information along the way, which I would have missed on my own. Great hike in a beautiful setting.

We stopped here for lunch while on a cycling trip and while there we hiked to trail. We saw lots of petrified wood and the views were terrific. The trail at a couple points could have been better marked...but all was well.

Great little state park. The longer of the 2 hikes is by far the best, the petrified trees are all over the place. The petrified wood was beautiful and something we had never seen before.

It depends on what you like to do. We just got back two days ago. This time we backpacked into Coyote Gulch. It's absolutely stunning (my fourth time going). There's some great closer day hikes: Spooky and Peek-a-Boo slot canyons, lower calf creek falls. Thus is a country full of slot canyons and natural bridges and arches. Google them and see if it interests you. I will say it's super hot (105 degrees by 11 am), so you'll have to be on the trail by 6am with plenty of water. We ran into two groups who ran out of water and were in pretty bad shape. This area is one of my favorites in Utah but extremely different from Zion and far less crowded.

We didnt go to the upper trail,had somebody with asthma with us,that wasnt used to the weather there.Although that little lake looked very inviting.
