We were able to do the hike but just stopping at the parking area along I-70 to take a look and take some photographs. It’s awesome!

I'm not going to add much here because the other reviews cover this excellent stop quite well. I just want to clarify that the BLM gate is at mile marker 147. Others have misquoted the number so ignore them and make sure you watch for MM 147 on I-70.

Close to town, easy access off interstate (don’t follow GPS) because you can reach it easier from highway. Dogs required to be on leash, but that wasn’t being followed, so we stayed away from trail with our dogs to avoid these people.
Wonderful hiking areas all around, don’t just do the tourist thing, get out & explore.

Well worth the drive. Beautiful scenery and nice roads. We will definitely do it again. We highly recommend it.

Hard to decipher the dragon on the wall but it was a fun little ride. Not technical. There were some pictographs by the dragon. They were more interesting.

Hiked in a few miles. We drove until we couldn’t “comfortably” drive any more with our rented minivan. (We did see a Subaru driving the loop.) Parked and hiked a few miles. Nice hike, interesting petroglyphs. Met another group that recommended we go up to Bucks Wash also, glad we did! We then camped on the land there.

Thanks, Trip Advisor World, for turning on us on to this great, secret find. Our only regret is that we didn’t plan for more time to make the hike longer, maybe the loop that others have mentioned.
Reading some reviews, I was afraid we wouldn’t be able to find it or we wouldn’t be able to get there in our minivan, but we had no problems. The turnoff is right where everyone says it is. The correct dirt road was obvious to us (all the way to the right). There is an area where you cross a wash that sort of looks like a road, but again, it was obvious to stay straight, and we had no issues.
We ended up parking at a campsite on the BLM land and walking the last .5 or .75 mile to the start of the canyon because we didn’t think we could get in farther. You can get almost to the opening of the canyon with your vehicle, so keep that in mind if you want to park closer.
The hike and canyon were amazing! We are an active couple in our mid-30s with a 3 year-old and a 7 month-old. We each wore a kid and had no issues. We were alone the entire 2-hour hike, except for a small group checking out the pictographs and petroglyphs on the canyon walls towards the beginning of the hike. We also encountered a solo traveler in his Subaru Outback that entered the canyon through the other side. I don’t know how he got his car through in some places. That was a spectacle!
This is absolutely worth the adventure. You will find it no problem, just trust the reviews and get out there!

This was a great trail for a family with small kids. We went early in the spring so heat wasn't a huge factor for us.

This was our first ride in the area on our newly acquired mountain bikes. Although we have done plenty of mountain biking there is always a little trepidation when going to an unknown place.
It is VERY difficult to find the trail head. We drove past because it is set well off the road and has a very small sign. It was quite difficult to go back as there is a concrete median barrier so you have to drive several miles before being able to turn around.
Once you go inside the gate from the highway, I suggest driving for about a mile unless you like riding dirt roads. There is no need, the track is interesting enough beyond that point.
The views are spectacular when you are down in the canyon and the riding is good for beginner to intermediate although expect a bit of a climb.
Once it opens out, the track goes on and on. We eventually decided we had enough and turned around which was a good decision as there really is no end.

Can you drive to the Canyon or do you Park then walk to the Canyon where the pictographs are?

Depending on the weather you can drive or walk. I wouldn't take a 2WD car in there, but a high clearance SUV with good driving should be able to make it to the pictographs.
