You'll find this short, easy, half-mile dirt trail about seven miles in from the Payson entry of the Mt. Nebo Scenic Byway. There is a good amount of parking at this location as well as at the lot up the road a bit. The trail is mostly level, but you will have to cross several stream points via logs and stones. So for this I recommend you wear waterproof footing and maybe carry a trekking pole. Actually if you scrutinize each of these crossing points closely, you might figure a way to cross with only minimal footing on the logs. Depending on the time of year, the falls can be a tickle or something like a nice stream. In the dead of winter it might be frozen up. The trail is really family friendly and kids seem to handle the minor obstacles better than some adults. If, for some reason, you use the upper parking, you'll begin on a connector trail. Just remember, when you reach the junction, follow north then south to connect to the main trail. Otherwise, you'll be headed toward Shram Creek. And you can go that way, if you want.

I give this activity 5 stars for what it is - a fun, family activity. We have hiked it many times with our young grandchildren. It is challenging enough for them that it builds confidence and they have a wonderful time. The "falls" at the end of the short, easy trail, are subject to the season. At times there is a lot of water falling and other times there is none. Whether or not there is much water at the falls does not affect the trail experience. It is a very popular trail and therefore not pristine. But, the kids love it and like to do it over and over again.

This was our first time on the trail and we had a good time. We did the hike with young kids ages 6 to 2, and the hike we easy enough that they had a fun time. The trail is half a mile one way, and it is mostly uphill getting there, but you don't climb too much elevation. There are 3 log bridges you cross. The first one is wide and secured. The second is a wide log that is leveled off. The third one is just at the entrance to the grotto and is slightly unstable.
We went in the fall so the water level was really low and very fun for the kids to splash around in. I understand the water is higher in the spring. The area is pretty and the kids had a great time, great activity for families. The area was clean and smelled great. We went on labor day and it was a little crowded at times, but it was good overall.

It takes an analytical response when majority of people are stating it is 'excellent'. I disagree.
The unbearable stench of a dead animal that must have been rotting for weeks was half way over an area of 100 meters.
At least 7 different places, there was dog poo and horse doo.
During COVID times none of the passers by had masks and they almost pass close by you breathing heavily.
The end part is disappointing. The fall is flowing like 2 gallons per minute.
Messy area with people's plastic of all sort.
There are much better trails and better managed than this one.
Avoid it!

Right now us a great time to see the water fall if you want to see it flowing big. The creek was flowing so high I carried the young children across in some parts.

Had a good time with our kids age 3 and 5. It was just the right length and difficulty for them. The water level can be high or none existand depending on weather and such.

Trail is open again! You wouldn't even know it was burned last year if you never saw the news. Still beautiful! Short hike (uneven tarane some parts, a bit of an incline, but not bad). Half mile out and back. Took about 15-20 minutes one way with three young kids under nine! Love the waterfall at the end. It's small, but the water comes in and it's surrounded by rocks like a cove, it's really cool. Wear shoes you can get wet. Highly recommend for a person/family with limited time and want to enjoy outdoors. Trail head can be hard to spot if you haven't been there. There is a small sign and Google will lead you straight to it though. Mostly shaded, with lots of trees.

Because of last year's fire this trail will be closed for 2019.
It is a great little hike, short and easy and kids love it. Best in the spring and early summer when there is more water coming off the small waterfall. Kids love to walk under the water fall and get wet.

My grandkids and I go every year. My grandkids range from 10-2. The trail is very easy and the falls are absolutely wonderful. The parking is at the trail head which makes it convenient when you are bringing lots of kids.

The grotto is the perfect hike to do if you want an easy hike. It is very beautiful and you are rewarded with a small waterfall at the end! Great for anyone and families with children 5 or so and up should be able to do it easily.
