Some interesting and specialized things to see. Small location. You have in front a very nice shop (Orvis) for fishing and outdoors gear.

What an education we got seeing how the fly fishing rods and all the hundreds and hundreds of flies have developed over the years. All the work that goes into making them. It was a great experience to visit this museum.

This is a really nice museum to see. It's not very big, but it shows a number of fly fishing rods, reels, and flies.

The American Museum of Fly Fishing is a must-see in Manchester. The museum has great exhibits about fly fishing flies, rods, reels and everything associated with the sport, which are presented in a way that is interesting to both dedicated fly fishers and those just looking to learn more about the craft and history of the sport.
The permanent collection includes fly tackle used by many U.S. Presidents, including the fly wallet of John Adams. Also a good amount of information on how bamboo fly rods, reels and flies are made, as well as a fly room, library and bookstore.
The museum store is a good one, and we bought a few gifts there for our fishing friends.
They also put on an annual Fly Fishing Festival with lots of vendors selling flies, rods, reels, authors signing books, etc., food and drink, etc.--this year's will be on Saturday Aug. 10th--which we have been to a few times and is a good place to learn more about the sport for everyone, whether they are a novice or expert fly fisher.
Worth a detour to see.

Located right down the street from the Orvis store and Orvis Fishing School, this small but well organized museum provides a very nice history on the sport of fly fishing as well as the progression of reels, rods, and of course.... flies.
The displays are very well organized with just the right amount of explanation to inform the reader while keeping their attention. Numerous displays are dedicated to the flies themselves and I was amazed at the minute size of some of them..... they seemed more like pieces of art than anything else.
This museum was worth our time and the $5 per person admission fee. If you are not a fly fisher you will enjoy learning about the sport, but if you already do fly fish, then this would be the museum for you to check out.

I don't fish but there is a Caberra outdoor store next to museum. They even give fishing lessons.
