Very Quirky museum with interesting displays and information on Maple Syrup. We arrived about 4.30pm on a Saturday - they close at 5.00pm and the lady told us not to rush around the museum. We enjoyed the displays that were informal but very informative and well presented.
The MOST enjoyable museum on our trip around New England
We tasted 4 samples of the maple syrup and I enjoyed the bourbon cask aged Maple syrup, so taking some back to the UK. The shop was very good.
The lady advised us and gave us map of the local covered bridges which we enjoyed driving to and viewing. We would never have seen these bridges otherwise.
The autumn colours on the drive along country roads from Woodstock were superb.

We so totally enjoyed this experience! Laura was very helpful and friendly as well. Upon arriving she offered us mini tastings of each type of syrup. We then went into the museum and learned SO much! Note: While the (extensive) gift shop was heated the museum was not - dress accordingly in the cooler months. Just don’t miss it! The $3 museum admission is definitely worth the experience!
The museum contains extensive historical murals and artifacts - we also enjoyed the push buttons to hear the actual voices and reminiscences of old timers. Also be sure to watch the brief 8 min video. It added much to our understanding of the syrup making process. Since we all love maple syrup this was a super fun stop! Do look at the Wall of Shame also to see which brands try to trick us.
TIP Before you leave be sure to get directions to one of the local covered bridges - a must see!!

We visited here this morning because our family likes maple syrup. The museum was a nice surprise as it helped to understand the historic progression from natives to settlers and today's bulk specialization. Noteworthy; Woodland native mural with detailed information on placing hot rocks in a hollowed log container, then boiling down to crystal stored in 25 lb "Mokuks", Settler sugar mold display and modern evaporator pan produced in VT. Then there was the tasting, going between the increasingly stronger grades that ended with the new flavor aged in a Bourbon barrel.
Our purchases at the end waived the normal $3 each museum fee.

An hour will be sufficient time to take in this museum. Some of the displays seem not to have been updated in a while, referring to individuals born before 1910 or so in the present tense, but the retro vibe works and you will learn a lot about how maple syrup production has changed across the centuries. The lady working the museum was helpful and had an appealing sense of humor. Visiting this museum and then the Baird farm will give you a great overview of past and present. My personal
favorite display: the wall of shame displaying all the fake, pseudo, and ersatz “maple syrups” foisted on the people in the twentieth century. I am looking at you, Log Cabin!

Came across this museum on our road trip.
The young lady who was working was very friendly and welcoming and had a tremendous knowledge of the industry.
The museum was very illustrative with models, drawings, photo’s and a film show together with a plethora of various equipment used in harvesting Maple Syrup.
Very, very interesting and unexpectedly enjoyable.
We also purchased a variety of their Maple Syrups

We toured the museum with a group and were delighted to find so much history and information about the harvesting of maple syrup. The guide was interesting and informative and the museum has a huge amount of historical artifacts and equipment, showing how the Native Americans originally harvested the syrup, as well as the details of how much sap it takes to make the syrup. This is an education and an awareness. You'll want to take the tour and then sample the various types of syrup, wander in the gift shop and pick up your favorite grade of Maple Syrup. You can have it shipped home or to friends, too. Try the maple jelly and check out the variety of maple products, then get a T shirt to prove you were there. This is definitely a place to stop when traveling, or if you live within driving distance, a great afternoon of fun for the family. I give them a grade of A and highly recommend them. And Fall is the perfect time to go.

This is an older museum and well worth the stop. Lots of history to see. Learned about sugaring, all the types of maple and non maple syrup and sampled several kinds. Gift shop is wonderful and they will ship to you. The shipping is a little expensive but they have many items you will not find anywhere else.

We spent 1 hour in this museum and learned a lot about the history of maple syrup production. Even though the museum seems old/out-dated, it still provided more information and old-time implements to view than any other place we visited. So we are glad we visited this museum. We particularly enjoyed the film in the theatre at the end of our self-guided tour. Then we went into the Gift Shop area to sample the different grades of maple syrup. Side Hill Farms jams are also available to sample in the Gift Shop. We purchased the Side Hill Farms Maple Pumpkin Butter, Apple Pie Jam, and Wild Blueberry Jam – they were all delicious! We found the prices for maple syrup products here to be better than other stores in the area. However, even better prices and variety were found further north in Vermont, during our New England trip.

Are you under new ownership and are you currently open? Went to the museum earlier in the year and you were closed. We always visit the New England maple museum when in Vermont and will be visiting for a few days starting Sun 10/20

Does anyone know the current dates and hours they are open? We are going in October, but it worries me that their web site says they are closed for the season, but I saw someone went last October, so I don't know what the "season" is.
