The Bassett Historical Center sits right on the river along what used to be the busiest 'strip' of road in Bassett. Boasting an AMAZING veteran's display in the parking lot, the history center is waiting with so much to offer behind the doors of this local gem.
EVERY person/family should discover all the center has to offer. If you are researching for local history you will find displays that feature the deep roots of Martinsville, Henry & Franklin counties.
In addition to local history, there is a knowledgeable staff that can assist you with research from all over the country. 'Family folders' can also be found. Photos and other history has been collected and stored in this vast research center for travelers and locals.
There is also a section dedicated to the churches of the area. Study the local history and information on religious institutions stored in a wonderful cataloging system for patrons to delve with ease.
If you would like to donate or share family information, the Bassett Historical Center will GLADLY accept donations, scan photos or historical documents from ANY family.
The center far surpasses history centers that I have previously visited across the United States. You cannot beat the exceptional staff members and the lengths they go to when helping with your research.
This gem is far outgrowing the confines of this beautiful building. Remember them when looking for an establishment for donation. If you haven't taken the time to visit the displays....MAKE the time!!

I stopped by seeking some information on a landmark that was associated with my grandfather. They were VERY helpful and knew exactly what I was seeking. I found even more than I was looking for. I need to visit again as I have more research.

We visited this combination library and museum seeking information on our family history. We found the staff to be knowledgeable, extremely helpful, and, friendly. The facility is very comfortable and well organized. The location is right beside a beautiful river in a scenic area of historic Bassett, Virginia. The exhibits are very informative. Computers are available for research. Admission is free. Parking is ample and free. Restaurants and shopping are nearby. We would definitely go back on our next visit.
