If you want a local alternative to Starbucks, stop at Backyard Birds and Coffee. They have the usual coffee drinks and frappes along with smoothies, ice cream, and a great indoor/outdoor seating area. Good place for families and travelers who need to stretch their legs.

Nice place went for ice cream they sell beautiful things ice cream was delicious a little bit pricey but it's good love sitting outback very calming

This is a very pleasant stop at the North Carolina-Virginia border just north of Lake Gaston. The coffee is fresh and the environment is a lot more pleasant than a gas station. It's less than a mile from the exit off of 85, so easy on, easy off. Great place to shake off the construction on 85 in NC as you head north.

This is a delightful surprise is Bracey just off 85. Beautiful selection of plants, lovely pond, birding supplies, ice cream, and fantastic coffee! Sit and relax on ther porch. Very friendly owner.

We absolutely love Backyard Birds & Coffee!! This is a perfect coffee shop to stop in on your travels through the area, and the locals love it!! The coffee is wonderful and the set up is perfect for relaxing and admiring the beautiful birds that are in the area!

After coming here a few times I keep coming back. They offer delicious coffee and hand dipped ice cream of top quality. There are multiple seating areas that are cozy and quaint with great views of the gardens around. There is also garden seating and you can enjoy the ambience with a group of friends too! They offer an amazing selection of gift ideas or whimsey for your home & garden. I was able to find something suitable and pleasing as a hostess gift which is not easy to do in small town. It is quite an experience and I recommend checking it out and making it a new habit:)
