We played in a group outing at Twin Lakes but had hoped to play the Oaks course. But the folks at the course recommended that we play the Lakes course since we had several occasional golfers and I'm glad they did. We had played the Lakes course several times in the distant past but had not played it since the upscale Oaks course opened - it's one of my favorite courses in the area.
Check-in was slow as I remember it generally being but a big bonus was that we were able to warm up off grass tees at the driving range. The practice green was nice but it's a little out of the way. It took a while to remember the layout and it seemed better than I remember it.
The layout follows the natural lay of the land and there were only a few blind shots and some overly long holes, but in general it was a good time and the course was in good shape. Part of that may have been that we "played if forward" from the senior tees. The pace of play was excellent, as was the post round cheese burger.

I am not a particularly good golfer so hesitate to speed too much money for greens fees. I live quite close to Twin Lakes so enjoy playing here.

My friends and I often take advantage of the two 18-hole courses out at Twin Lakes, just off Braddock Road in Clifton, VA. I discovered their Senior League last year (posted on the bulletin board) and they have kept me busy and well-informed about golf locally. The staff is great, prices are fair, good discounts, and well run by Fairfax County. Only minor grumbles I have is the difficultly of being able to hit balls off the grass at the range; and the snack bar, which is modern and clean but a little impersonal. And, with practice, I'll soon break 100.

The Oaks course has a great layout for a municipal golf course. The greens are bent grass and in pretty good shape other than a lot of ball marks, which you would expect from the amount of play the course gets.
The tee boxes were not in very good shape when we were there; the grass was not fully grown in and there were some bare spots. The fairways were good; the grass was pretty thick and the ball set up nicely. The fescue grass rough was up and thick, which made it difficult to find your ball and challenging to get back into play (you had to hit it cleanly and not fat).
The bunkers were awesome although I luckily did not find myself in them often (this was a first). Since we were last there they did a Billy Bunker restoration, installing a new liner system and fresh white sand. The bunkers looked awesome and were consistent in texture and playability.
The check-in was frustrating (this is what lowered the rating). We got to the course a half an hour before our tee time, which we thought would be okay. But it turns out it was marginal. We went inside to pay and the man had to have a conversation with everybody. There were 7 people in line and each one of them took forever. Because of this, we did not get a chance to hit balls to warm up. The pace of play was excellent; we only had to wait once at #10 (it was pretty far from the clubhouse) and played in a little over 3 hours.

Played golf at the oaks course on Saturday September 1st.
Probably the worst course I have ever played. 16 of 18 fairways were either barren or caked with large mud pits. While I understand it rained in the early morning, I expected some wet spots, but not all the fairways soaked with mud balls, non existing fairway grass, etc.this did not just happen overnight.
The manager should have advised us that this course was in terrible shape.
Furthermore, he should have given us a credit for the round.
Very disappointed.

This course has wide open fairways and very clean and well keep. The carts were in excellent condition. The staff was very helpful, and the food was ok. Not write home to Mom ok, just ok. The greens were in great shape, and I think I know why. The cart path is about 20 yards from the green....Some of the hole t-boxes are not very well marked, but all in all this was a good outing and challenging course.

Played here on a very hot Monday afternoon. Had the place to myself, or at least it seemed that way. Marshall came by to offer a cold towel which was appreciated. In pretty good shape considering the traffic and heat.

They're pretty good and cater to all levels of play. The course condition is average, and not very challenging. It's a good local community course.

Both the Oaks and Lakes courses here are terrific tracks! I've been golfing here for 35+ years-- since the old clubhouse-- and Twin Lakes management cares about these courses. They are well maintained and good challenges.
The starters are well organized and professional-- beware they get a little cranky if you show up later than 30 minutes before your tee time.

this area is very large and the signs are not the best...very vague in detail so we got lost a few times trying to find the spot to park the car to the trails. the map is very old school, reminds me of a water map. the markers on the trees lead you everywhere but are not labeled enough so if you end up on a road you wont let lost and you would keep going down the proper trail instead of a road 5 miles in the wrong direction. this was a memorable trip to say the least and we had sooo much fun, the waterfalls were beautiful and natural.

I don't work there so I really don't know. Since we had our own clubs we didn't really have a reason to ask the question. I would suggest googling the course to get their contact information and asking them.
