We enjoyed the interaction with a very knowledgeable and engaging volunteer docent who explained the Ball's Bluff Battle. The Battlefield is in an absolutely beautiful setting with multiple hiking trails. This is located only minutes from downtown Leesburg.

This little park was a beautiful and well kept national historic site. Plenty of info boards told stories I’d never heard of before from the civil war. If you’re in the area it is a great place to spend an hour or so!

The highlight of our visit was the excellent tour provided by a volunteer. We were the only ones on that tour, which made it all the better. The battlefield itself is small, and the action was relatively simple. It was a bit like First Manassas, in that you can walk around the whole battlefield in short order. There are regular tours on the weekends, and we obviously recommend that you time your visit to join a tour. In the end, Ball's Bluff was a minor and early fight in the Civil War, but the field is worth a visit if you are a Civil War buff, and it's a pleasant walk in the park/woods even if you are not (and the weather is good). We plan a revisit in the winter so we can see the field (and the river) without all the leaves on the trees.

To be completely accurate the smallest National Veteran's Cemetery in the country is on the grounds of the Hampton VA Med Ctr. 22 graves (all reportedly from Yellow Fever).

The battle where the only US Senator died in the Civil War. The cemetery has 54 soldiers buried here but only 26 markers ( 25 unkown). The battle remembered for a faulty intelligence report. There is a Confederate Soldier Clinton Hatcher memorial marker on the field but he is buried in his home state.

What associate justice of the Supreme Court of the US was wounded and what US Senator died on the Ball’s Bluff Battlefield? We were in the Leesburg, VA area and decided to explore the battlefield. There is a kiosk near the parking lot where I recommend picking up the walking tour brochure. A sign nearby shows the location and length of the trails. All trails are well-marked. We chose the Interpretive Trail where the leaf-strewn Burk’s trail head forks to the right, a short distance from the parking lot kiosk. The slightly uphill trail had many interpretive signs explaining what had happened in a particular area. Ball’s Bluff was the site of one of the Civil War’s early battles and marked the site of a defeat of the Union Army near Leesburg. As you walk the trail, you will come upon a fenced-in cemetery housing the remains of 54 soldiers who died in the Battle. There is a marker outside the cemetery marking the place where Colonel Edward Baker, a Union commander, was shot to death. A monument for Clinton Hatcher a Confederate soldier is beside the cemetery. Ball’s Bluff Overlook gives a good view of the Potomac River and is a beautiful spot to observe nature. Be careful of your footsteps as it is a long drop down to the Potomac River. Those interested in artillery, or even if you are not, this is a must stop at the Union Artillery display. It takes an hour or more to walk the battlefield if one takes the time to read the signs. Oh, by the way, the Supreme Court justice was Oliver Wendell Holmes and the US Senator was Edward Baker. Enjoyable day.

A bit rustic when my wife and I visited. Not a "touristy" place, but if you are interested in civil war stuff, this is well worth visiting

The Bull's Bluff Battlefield is located right outside the City of Leesburg. Visiters must go through a neighborhood to get to the park where the battle field is located. If you do not want to read or go by your pace, wait for the free guided tour that starts at 11 and 1. I learned a lot about the CIVIL war and how it divided Loudoun County in Virginia. Take the Interpretive Trail Loop for the battlefield and the national cemetary.

We happened to encounter a guide who had just return from a tour to the cemetery. He showed us the multiple US flags in our early days, explained what happened at this site and showed us one of their muskets. Wish we had more time to hear more.

Took this tour on Sunday with a group of friends. Our guide Tom was amazing and had so much knowledge about the battle and the Civil War. He really brought it to life for us! It is a beautiful Park as well. Highly recommend!

Well, the park is open everyday weather permitting. The first time, it was snowed in so it was closed for several days. However, its a self walking battlefield. Allow 15 mins to walk from the parking to the site. Make sure you drive in passed the first park sign, its at least a 1/2 mile passed the visitors center, but well worth the trip.
