I played Viniterra on a Wednesday in late August. Design is solid, although I would guess the Superintendent gets tired of rebuilding bunkers following significant rainfall. Bunkers had recently been washed out and were in the rebuild phase during our visit.
Tee’s - generally in good shape, although they needed to be cut.
Fairway’s - Like the tee’s, over 50% of the fairway’s needed to be cut. Several were like playing from first cut rough.
Sandtrap’s - These guys have not aged well. There are washout and drainage issues galore. Liner was showing through in a number of bunkers. We treated many as “ground under repair” as they were not playable. Bunker raking was also an issue. Although rakes are plentiful, most of the bunkers around green’s had numerous footprints.
Green’s - I got excited on the putting green, but that was short lived as the green’s on course are riddled with ball marks. Part of it is the time of year where the golf course is stressed to the max (I did see evidence that green’s had been vented to allow oxygen to get to the roots), but there are too many unrepaired ballmarks. To add injury, the member that went out first in front of us needed a lesson in how to walk on a green in golf shoes. He dragged his feet, twisted his spikes, etc. The green’s had been cut on the morning of our play, but the edges did not get a finish trim. It wasn’t a good look.
Overall, we barely saw any of the green’s crew out on the golf course, and it was in need of a good cut. The only crew we saw was taking a break during bunker rebuild. We enjoyed the layout and will give it another shot when it is less stressed, and hopefully the playing conditions will be better.

I have played this course many times. I know the layout well.
But today, I decided I can’t go back until they start being Covid Safe.
Not one person did I see with a mask, anywhere......employee or guests. When I arrived, there were about 10-12 people in the clubhouse. The gentleman behind the counter did not sport a mask, the lady at the snack bar didn’t have a mask, and none of the guests.
Their Covid sign on the door reads “if you can’t wear a mask inside or out, please maintain six feet distance”. Which is literally an invitation to not wear a mask. I am high risk. I play golf because it’s one of the safest places I can get activity. I can’t continue to play here if they are going to continue to be reckless.
It’s in good shape and is a lot of fun. Bunkers well maintained, which with our weather lately, is impressive.
Unless you are a single digit or you hit the ball 250 consistently, please play the white tees. Otherwise you will be miserable and so will the people behind you.
See you in 2022 hopefully

Wow!!!! What a fantastic course for a great price! Really wish we had more courses like this in the VB area as it took game play to a whole different level. Playing LONG, it challenges any level of golfer for sure! The course was in great shape with really nice greens, especially in January. The view was gorgeous and so peaceful!
Now I am not the greatest golfer but with my experience and 15 handicap, I would definitely say you need to at least be able to make solid contact with the ball as the distance could be challenging to reach in par. If you are new, playing from anything beyond the whites should really be considered for better ball strikers because it truly is long and challenging and suited for the lower handicap or scratch players. Slow play will come into play if trying to play out of your element. It is quite forgiving but if you get into the woods, it is difficult to find the ball under the leaves which slows it even more. Definitely not a walking course and loads of hills/undulations all over the place.
It is a very fun/challenging course and was worth the hour and 10 minute drive. I will definitely consider making my way at least once a year to experience the courses in the Williamsburg to Richmond area. Definitely a different ball game versus where I live.

I purchased tee times for two through the club's website. Little did I know that the weather would be horrible on the day we were to play the course. So bad that the fairways and greens were flooded. Bad enough that the final round of the PGA Champions Tour event down the road was postponed to Monday. When we arrived at the course we were told under no circumstance would we get a rain check. Jeff (the general manager) was incredibly rude. His claim that I purchased the round from "Golf Now" was news to me since I purchased it through Viniterra's website. End result...NO GOLF, LOST $120 & HAD TO DEAL WITH THE RUDEST PERSON I'VE EVER MET.

We recently moved to Richmond area and have been in search of Golf courses to play. I have three tiers I want on our list, the inexpensive Muni which is ideal for Fridays (skipping out early for), the regular course that is fun, interesting, well maintained and close and the Weekend destination courses. This tier is usually more than a 30 minute drive, tends to be a little more expensive and has what I refer to as “grandeur” which means it’s as nice to look at as it is to play, one that has you standing in the Tee box taking in the scenery long before you hit. This course is squarely in the third tier. We live in the south western Richmond suburbs which makes this a 40 minute drive, we booked through golf now and were happy to pay to $60 or so for a 9 am Sunday tee time.
As a note to some of the reviews we read concerning the club house, at some point this course only had a trailer, that is no longer the case. There is a brand new building next to the driving range. Although not as nice a club house as some in the area it’s adequate, well-staffed and serves up decent pub grub.
Heading to the first tee is an experience, your pointed towards a gravel road which you head down wondering why it isn’t paved and if this is how your day is going to go but after a few minutes you hit the classic paved cart path at the first tee. I was impressed with the view, manicured fairways and meticulously managed greens. The bunkers are raked every day and where in great condition considering the amount of rain we had the previous week. So as of now, this is on my short list of weekend courses. We intend to play this one quite a bit.

Decent but sand trap issues. They currently (as of October 2018) own and manage Royal New Kent as well as manage Brickshire. We are hopeful they gain momentum soon.

Have played TCaV multiple times without much of a crowd. Half way between Williamsburg and Richmond the TCaV may sometimes get forgotten. Can be long and difficult from the Tips, but a good challenge from the forward tees. Worth the drive and the effort

I am a member. The staff is friendly and the course is in great condition. Bunkers are challenging and being long on greens means trouble.

Course was in good shape for this early in the season.
They are growing / expanding , so some construction around.
Course has a lot of sand and little water.
Very nice views. Every hole offers a different challenge. Lots of variety in play.

We were extremely impressed with the overall course conditions and also the great lay-out. An expansive course with beautiful views and conditions helped to set a positive mood for our recent play at this great course. I am from Ontario, Canada and enjoy golfing from Ontario to Florida, to Alabama and points in between. I found this course and area to be great "bang for the buck" and I consider this course and it's value to be top-notch and a must play when in the Williamsburg area. A great destination for all.
