You can easily spend two-three hours leisurely walking through the museum (the static displays are neat, the stained glass is BEAUTIFUL, and there is an award-winning film "Field of Lost Shoes". A LOT of the Civil War occurred in Virginia, and the Virginia room displays the history of the Civil War in Virginia. I don't think they have any more reenactments this summer, but they do offer self-guided and group tours. **CAUTION -- Make sure you go to the New Market Battlefield STATE Historical Park...NOT the New Market Battlefield Military Museum which you will pass first when you turn onto Collins Pkwy, off of the Rt. I-81 exit ramp...that one is 'for profit', and according to many TripAdvisor reviews, is not of the same historical quality...you want to go to the VIRGINIA MUSEUM OF THE CIVIL WAR -- NEW MARKET BATTLEFIELD STATE HISTORICAL PARK {*which is associated with Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, VA}. Where will you be staying? Because when I go, I stay by VMI in Lexington, VA to visit VMI, Washington & Lee College, the National D-Day in Bedford, VA,...AND...the Virginia Museum of the Civil War (not overly far from Manassas NBP either...but then, I do like driving). Take a camera, sunblock, water, comfy walking shoes ($ for entrance fee -- I don't recall how much)...stamps to send post cards to family & friends, and your sense of historical wonderment & adventure. I hope it will be a nice sunny day for you (plenty of nice local places for a meal or souvenir shopping). Enjoy! :-D
