What an epic ride up the mountain! My daughter and skied Chamonix and rode the train both to and from. Definitely recommend this, Incredible views and easy access to all the villages both on the French and Swiss sides. Easy transfer across the platform at Vallorcine

Made the trip from Martigny to Vallorcine. Fantastic views and breathtaking scenery. Had not planned the trip but extremly happy I made it.

Incredibly scenic ride up the Chamonix Valley, and with a quick change of trains at the top, down into Switzerland. The scenery on both sides (especially n Switzerland) is stunning, and the train is comfortable and reliable. Easily done as a day or half day from Chamonix, you can stop for coffee or lunch in Martigny before returning.
As others have pointed out, you should be able to get a free pass for the French side through your accommodation if you’re staying somewhere round Chamonix. We had to pay for the Switzerland side though.

On ne retrouve pas le charme du petit train des années 50 avec les plate formes aux extrémités, ni le bruit caractéristique d'un train à crémaillère...

Mit dem Mont-Blanc Express sind wir von Martigny bis Finhaut gefahren und wieder zurück. Wegen der aktuellen Corona-Situation konnten wir nicht bis Charmonix (Frankreich) sitzen bleiben.
Die Strecke wurde 1906 eröffnet und verbindet die Rhonetalebene mit dem Mont-Blanc.
Das Gefälle der Zahnradbahn-Strecke ist 20%. Diese touristische und internationale Meterspurbahn ist auch ein wichtiges Verkehrsmittel für die Bewohner des Trient-Tals - das einzige Tal des Wallis, das nicht vollständig von Strassen erschlossen ist.
Der Zug durchstreift geheimnisvolle Wälder, überquert wilde Schluchten und fahrt an schwindelerregenden Steilhängen entlang!

Après un départ de la gare de martigny nous montons avec un train avec des vues sur la vallée de martigny à vous couper le souffle et surtout la pente vertigineuse à crémaillère as vont pas été plus loin que les marécottes mais vaut vraiment le détour

We used it multiple times during our stay in Chamonix. Reliable, comfortable, great views - 10/10. Also free at great part when you obtain guest card from your hotel.

Met de Mont Blanc Express van Martigny naar Le Chatelard Frontiere is een mooie rit van ongeveer 45 minuten. Onderweg mooie uitzichten en veel tunnels.

Does anyone know if the Mont Blanc Express travels in December? We want to go on the 18th Dec from Chamonix to Montreux on lake Geneva but want to take the Mont Blanc Express to Martigny if possible. I can't seem to find the answer anywhere and the current timetable only goes up to 14th December.
Also is the free travel for this included included on the Carte d'hote? Or the Multipass? Many thanks for any advice.

Yes, in case you haven't found the answers yet I can answer them as I live in a village the Mont Bland Express line. The free travel with Carte d'hote you mention only extends to Vallorcine, the last village on the French side from Cham direction. It is easy to change at Martigny for Montreyx but fares on Swiss side are expensive.

I dont think so. Early snowfall might make it impossible, you better check by the Tourist Office your possibilities.
