You need to be aware that there are 2 halves to this Beach. Basically as you look at it, to the right it is called Black Rock and this side allows dog's on all year round. To the right it is the actual classed as Widemouth and this has Seasonal dog ban's. The Black Rock side is not a pretty beach, it is more jurrasic and basically when it is low tide it is mainly rock's, but also this provide's popularity for the rock pool's which are a plenty. It is a Life Guarded Beach on the Widemouth side and the Guard's work hard keeping everybody safe between their flag's. We watched the Tide coming back in today and it does so very fast. Would not recommend surfing anywhere outside of the flag's on either side as there are just too many hidden rock's. Probably one of the easier accessible beach's in the north of Cornwall area with plenty of parking next to the Beach. Rock Sand's side is £5 for 2 hours or £7 for all day (you can leave & return as many times as you like during the day) and the Widemouth carpark is pay by the hour.

This is an easy surf beach to go to. You can park at Black Rock for I think £8 a day. You can park right by the beach and they have surf hire, cafe and shops. The beach has lifeguards and is a good surf place.

Really enjoyed visiting Widemouth Bay years ago. However on our recent visit in August 2024, it was evident that less care is now taken over the area. Two parking meters were badly broken, appearing as though they had been vandalised. This made it difficult and inconvenient to locate a different machine which was working - some people probably wouldn’t find this, and would therefore be at risk of a fine. I noticed that another reviewer commented around 3 weeks ago detailing the parking meters were broken then, which suggests the council or similar have not invested time into fixing the damage of said parking meters over weeks during peak times. The toilets smelt absolutely disgusting, a horrible stench of sewage/drains. We used the toilets due to being desperate (covering our noses as much as possible!) The cafe closed just before 6pm, so no option to get a drink or snack when we were there, which was disappointing. Enjoying the sea views and watching the waves crashing were clear highlights and the reason for our visit, but the other aforementioned aspects unfortunately let down the overall experience for us. Should be a lovely place, but spoiled due to a lack of care, attention and maintenance.

We visited Widemouth bay beach north after going to Black rock beach and finding it absolutely full of dogs. This end of the beach does not allow dogs duribg peak season so it was much clamer. Plenty of sand even though there are some rocks and great waves. Lifeguards were on duty all day and very proactive. The beachside cafe was very expensive so I would recommend taking a picnic.
Both parking meters were broken and i couldn't get signal to pay online so heres hoping we don't end uo with a fine.

Lovely views.
Visited the black rock beach area. Lovely little cafe and souvenir stall. My son got a hat and he looks cute. We walked along the cliff top and down. We did it with a pram. Probably wouldn't advise doing that as wasn't the best way to get there.cthere is car parks if you drive. But as we was staying at widmouth Bay caravan park we decided to walk

Views are awesome - beach is accessible with minimal steps and is mainly sand, although some rocky areas when tide is out if you enjoy that sort of thing too.

Lovely views, lovely beach. Went and parked in the top car park and did a little circular walk around the bay.
Had a wonderful time. Sat down on the bench and just soaked in all the view.

We went here on the first day of our holiday, and although the weather wasn’t great (cloudy and overcast) we had a wonderful time exploring the rock pools and the beach. My 5 year old loves it. The parking was cheap and plentiful, and the café was lovely - great coffee and my boy had an ice cream sundae, the size and extravagance of which made us all blush a little (but he managed!). It’s clearly very popular with dog walkers, so watch your feet - this sector of society clearly don’t feel the need to behave reasonably, so watch out for piles of poo and scrape holes, littering the beach from top to bottom.

We’ve been regulars to Widemouth Bay for almost 3 years and visit all through the year.
ACCESSIBILITY: Not recommended for those with mobility issues or very young children in buggies due to the very large and numerous pebbles. The upper car park is essentially just a very bumpy field so also not recommended if you have mobility issues [try Summerleaze or Crooklets in Bude as more accessible with flat tarmac car parks]. The car parks are cash or the Just Park app and you may just get a couple of signal bars to complete payment! Apart from that, it’s all good.
BEACH: A haven for surfers in all seasons! Seasonal surf schools on site and also seasonal lifeguards. The beach is scattered with lots of very large & smaller pebbles, but exceptionally beautiful pebbles, each one with unique white quartz or calcite markings. There is plenty of sand beyond the large pebbles, once you’ve managed to clamber over them. The beach is generally quite clean [I’ve never noticed dog mess or extensive litter] with regular official litter collectors often seen. Because of the rocky nature of this beach, if you intend to use windbreaks be sure to have a very strong mallet. The sea is a beautiful azure with bright white surf and a gentle slope but, beware of riptides. The ancient rocks and cliffs are a wonderful geological site to see.
REFRESHMENTS: The Widemouth Bay Cafe is open all through the year & serves a variety of hot snacks & light meals as well as ice cream, hot & cold drinks & a few beach items. We haven’t used any other utilities nearby.
TOILETS: The loos are across from the cafe in a separate block. My experience of the ladies in high season is not good; there are only a few cubicles [never enough!] and more often than not, one or two are usually out of order due to a blockage so expect a wait! Also, the hand cleansing system in the two sinks is very poor: it’s the auto type where you place your hands beneath the sensor and if you’re lucky, you may get a squidge of soap & then you may or may not get the spray of water to rinse…I recommend you bring your own supply of hand gels/wipes and use those instead!
GENERAL: Widemouth Bay is not usually as busy as other hot-spots can be in Cornwall & Devon, although in high season you should expect [like anywhere else] to have to wait for a parking space or be in a long queue for the cafe and the loos.
Because it’s not as commercialised or golden-sandy as say Bude, Newquay, Hayle, St Ives etc, it’s kept much of its raw and natural charm. The coast path is easily picked up here too.

I have heard no dogs in wide mouth bay at all from Easter till October as it is a blue flag beach and council rules have changed. Is this the case/true ??

It’s not something that we did but there were some families that did so I’d say yes. I know if you travel to summerleaze or crooklets beach you definitely can there :)

As above £5 for the day. There are toilets and a cafe there as well.

No. Apparently the car park gates are closed 10pm. Overnight camping - caravans/motorhomes are allowed in the little field to the left of the entrance via arrangement with the cafe owners.

Access quite steep and a little uneven, probably not good with crutches.

There is a ramp but I managed the wide steps to the beach on my crutches ! Only five steps , some initial soft sand and then a smooth easy walk .

Yes you can take dogs on this beach all year round they have a designated dog area. I go with my dog in the summer holidays and he loves it!
Dogs are also welcome on the beach in bude which is not far away.
