Fabulous building, one of only a few classic buildings left in town centre, it seems. Great local displays about liquorice and glass making heritage. Free entry. Spot on.

Upon entering I was greeted by a member of staff called John, he made me feel very welcome and told me all about the various rooms and displays on offer, he also gave me some information on a painting of the nearby castle.
The museum was small but packed a lot of history into such a small space, I enjoyed the artefacts but, unless I missed them, I couldn't see any information panels explaining what they were.
After seeing all the rooms I spoke to another member of staff, David, again like John he was very nice and engaging and I noticed the archive room which they let me stay in and do a bit of research in, David also helped with some questions and I wish I could have stayed in that room all weekend lol.
All in all a delightful visit which most folk would take maybe an hour in total seeing everything helped by the great staff there.

Always a warm welcome at the door when visiting to see the changing displays in one room or the permanant displays in the others.

Really lovely little museum with lots of interesting items, all really well labelled so you know what you are looking at and what they are used for.
Make sure you visit the exhibition of paintings of the local area by Geoff Leathley, they are fantastic!
The museum building itself is worth a visit, art nouveau period with original features.
Very well worth a visit, and free entry.

Every so often I will pop in with my little boy to see if anything’s changed! Love looking at the items on display and my little boy enjoys the reading room! Staff very friendly and knowledgeable and I never feel rushed or like I’m in the way! The museum and the staff are a credit to WMDC!

Lovely exciting things to show little learning minds. Both grandsons enjoyed it and so did my husband and myself. Kept well and everyone helpful.

A small, focused museum discussing the area's history, from the Saxon era to the English Civil War to the 20th Century. Displays about liquorice and glass, plus relics from the sieges (such as an officer's cup, a stash of coins with a mysterious ring, a tobacco pipe, and a bullet mold), and a nice little rotating exhibit (pre WWII political cartoons, when I was there).
And the building is absolutely beautiful. It was the area's first public library, done in the art nouveau style. Lovely tilework, beautiful door handles, pretty windows. Just enhances the experience that little bit extra, you know?
I really liked Pontefract, a perfect little day trip in a pretty town with a fascinating history, free entry to all the attractions, and everything in walking distance of everything else. Very much worth a visit.

If you are in the town, do pop into the museum. It is quite small but offers a range of local information and history. When we visited there was an exhibition of satirical prints (Georgian and others). Nevertheless, the crowning glory is the painting of Pontefract Castle in its heyday.for me,
