Absolutely amazing place! It was well worth travelling 100miles just to see Big Engine working. An astonishing piece of engineering. Lots of other engines in steam and go to the boiler house to see the Stokers firing the boilers.
The Brittania Coconut Dancers also arrived to give a display of their unique style of dance. Fascinating!

I was given as a gift the Ellen road steam experience, would highly recommend it to anyone that wants to get hands on with steam boilers and steam engines. Not to mention its the biggest operational engine left in the world! If your into steam or not it is certainly worth a visit! There are many experienced volunteers that will explain how it all works and it’s history, The pictures do not do it justice, and when the main engine is running its pretty spectacular! There is also many other working engines, model engines, history and different shows in the car park. Check out their website to find out when they steam it up. 100% worth a visit.

Gary and I turned up at the mill only to find it closed but that didn't stop us bring shown round by a very knowledgeable chap called Phillip. His knowledge was excellent and even though closed he took the time to explain in detail how the engines worked many years ago.

Lovely little afternoon out with the family. Very informative and great to see the big wheel in action. Always local things added to each event from steam engines, vintage cars and/or choirs and dancing.

I had not seen Phil for many years and I flew to see him in Manchester to see Manchester United play at Old Trafford.
Phil took me to Ellenroadand I was amazed.
I had a fantastic day and so much fun seeing the Engine Rub.
It was phenomenal and a memory that will stick with me for the rest of my life.
I highly recommend a visit.

To see how industry evolved, this is a magnificent experience, recommended for anyone who thinks they have seen it all in modern life, I have a lifetime in engineering, I enjoyed the day, also there was a display of vintage and classic cars and bikes, I understand there are other displays throughout the year, I intend visiting again, more should flock to the place, nice little cafe as well, good brew!

Best thing to see in Rochdale. Easy access from J21 M62. Pity its only open 1st Sunday of the month. Worlds largest working Steam Mill Engines, traditionally fired by coal.

this is used by the vintage motor cycle club for events during the year and many motor cycles are put on show a great day out for the family
