This centre at the Rouse Hill House property is a great way to educate the family on the local indigenous expels of the area. There is a fantastic display of artwork for sale as well as locals who are willing to discuss and eager to share their knowledge, especially with non indigenous visitors. Well worth the effort to visit.

Firstly, one must pre-book to have this experience. We took a group of teenagers and the staff were engaging and knowledgable. They talked to the young people about bush tucker and the use of plants in everyday living, taught them how to throw a boomerang and some dancing, then gave a cultural talk and art activity. It was fantastic.

It was a bit hard to find as they had recently moved, but both myself and my 13 year old son learned much about the aboriginal culture and were treated to a personal boomerang throwing lesson. Instructors Josh, Dave, and Richard, were knowledgeable and so very friendly. Book in advance to take advantage of the native food and so that you do not conflict with any of their scheduled school tours.

Fantastic way to appreciate the First Nations culture and people. Very accessible and welcoming. A great way to make connections and understand what belonging to country means.

Cycling in region so decided to stop in for an experience, support their Cafe, have a coffee, get up to date with 'what's happening there now' so I could bring visitors.
Unfortunately, cafe no longer operating also Gallery itself appeared closed. There were some people wandering around but no-one offered to help, make suggestions of what we could do. There was a group inside so definitely 'something' happening. Presume a pre-booked tour. Sadly, did not feel inspired to come again in the near future although in the past I have been delighted here, bought souvineers as well to take oversees with me.

If you are visiting Sydney Australia and are keen to learn about Aboriginal people and culture, then visit Muru Mittigar - a friendly welcome and knowledgeable staff (not to mention the gift shop!) make Muru Mittigar a must see.

We came on this by chance. It is run by aborigines and is full of their history and knowledge (lore) and practical demonstrations. You get to throw a real Boomerang - I did GOOD! lol! and try your hand at aboriginal painting etc. A fun two hours.

This was a fascinating journey into the culture, history, psyche and mind of the Darug Aboriginal people,
Situated near Penrith in Sydney our guide, Les, took us on a journey discussing how the people lived, how time changed with the coming of the white people, the foods and tastes of the local bushes and trees and how foods were made from nature.
Les, a really fantastic bloke, demonstrated boomerang throwing and didgeridoo playing while Jon Boney, an amazing artist, led us in Aboriginal art and painting while demonstrating the basic symbols of the written Darug language.
We were shown the Yarn Circle, told the meaning of logs and how they are placed, the healing quality of plants and the gathering of Bush Tucker.
Not just a centre for learning but Muru Mittigar also offers training and employment on Natural Resource Management, speciality native nursery production & supply, a place for cultures to share and other areas useful to people.
Food can also be purchased there so good for a family day out.
Great for anyone, particularly school tours this is a good lengthy tour giving insight into the history of west Sydney's original inhabitants.
