Love visiting this place. It is very educating on the civil war. Cheat mountain is a beautiful place and would recommend a visit to anyone coming to West Virginia wanting a peaceful experience.

This was a relaxing, leisurely trip along the Cheat River to the top of the mountain. The fall colors were awesome and we enjoyed a buffet lunch on the train.

There is very little signage/information at this location. After walking a long trail up the mountain side, we were disappointed to read that depending on the season of the year, you may sometimes be able to see the structure of where the cabin stood. Obviously, the middle of summer is not the ideal time where all of the weeds are grown tall.

Loved the atmosphere and menu choices. High quality and yummy! Would definitely go there again! Very nice for special occasions and very nice to meet there with a large group of friends. Outdoor seating is available and you have a beautiful view of WV rolling hills and tree colors.

Cheat Summit Fort is run by the USFS and is on a passable gravel road, the old Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike. Earthworks and a few interpretive signs remind visitors of the Union fortress in this howling wilderness of 1861-62. Should be seen in conjunction with Camp Allegheny and Bartow,
