In southern part of Wisconsin, majority of parks and wildlife areas are in the swampy eastern part of the state. Western, so called Driftless Area, is strangly devoid of parks. Don't get me wrong - there are parks and State Natural Areas and other nature preserves, just not enough of them in proportion to the vastness of the Driftless. This medium sized park is a beautiful addition to the Driftless, offering several nice hikes and couple stunning views. Hikes are steep though, except one, so you need to be physically fit.

Fairly easy hike to an awesome view! Enjoyed the hike. Didn’t make it to the other view but will take the hike next time.

This park is likely to become a favorite spot for a bit of quiet and a scenic view of the countryside. The trails are nicely developed, and although there is an incline, it is fairly gentle considering the elevation to reach the nice lookout shelter/bench at the top. Seems like a great spot to sit and talk or read, enjoy the breeze, and take in the great view. There is a single outhouse in the small parking lot at the trail entrance.

Dane county's newest park offers wide, forested trails with a couple of scenic overlooks. We saw a variety of birds, including a vulture that decided to sun itself 30-40 feet from us at the top of the bluff. The timber frame overlook shelter provides a quiet and comfortable spot from which to take in the scenery. Don't forget your binoculars!

The newest addition to the Dane County Parks System is Morton Forest. While there is a meager 2 miles of trails, you can easily make it into 3+ with in-out hiking to all the points and back. There are two scenic overlooks giving two different vantage points into Pleasant Valley, and with the beautiful sheltered benches, not yet marred by graffiti, the rest you can take at the top of each climb while surveying the area is worth exertion.
Since we visited in January, there wasn't much to look at for plant life, however, the snow gave evidence of a healthy (perhaps too healthy) local population of raccoons. There were also tracks for: deer, turkey, rabbits, squirrels, small rodents, and numerous birds. I imagine that when the area greens up for the spring and summer that there will be new natural treasures to spot - and in fall, hopefully with some brilliant color - the views into the valley will be spectacular.
While the trails were not paved, they were wide enough that anyone in a wheelchair who is willing to "off road" will be able to do so. The overlook on the North side of the road has a steeper grade than that of the overlook on the South side, however, the view is better. The sheltered bench also has a ramp.
There is a portable toilet in the parking lot, it was not, however, wheelchair accessible.
